MY DRY JANUARY EXPERIENCE

Friends, I’m elated to be back today with the first completely new piece of content I’ve created in 2021, dedicated to My Dry January Experience. You may have noticed that things have been more quiet than usual lately as I took a step back from content creation to refocus my time, attention and resources on reviewing 2020 and getting inspired for the year ahead. While January wasn’t the most exciting or glamorous month, I’m so grateful I finally gave myself permission to focus on what matters and align with my goals! This Dry January involved a lot of self reflection, accountability and honesty about my blogging and entrepreneurial journey and where I want to take it. 2020 was an incredibly challenging year for so many, myself included — but it was peppered with experiences and wisdom that have afforded me a greater clarity than I’ve ever experienced. As a result, I’ve emerged from 2020 a much different person (as I’m sure many of us have!).

This time last year were in Huatulco and I was sipping a mezcalrita with my toes in the sand — oh how times have changed! Despite the drastically different circumstances of present times, this isn’t my first January, or sober month. It’s something I do whenever I feel I need a hard reset — and I’ve always found it to be in incredibly rewarding experience! As 2020 draws to a close, I’m sharing two fresh playlists for all your NYE listening needs! First up, my December 2020 Soundtrack — a short n’ sweet playlist featuring 37 of my favourite tracks from the month! As usual, you can expect an eclectic melange of genres, artists and sounds airing on the instrumental side that helped me through the pre-holiday hustle in this MONTHLY SOUNDTRACK. MID CENTURY MEETS BOHO HOLIDAY DECOR

Happy holidays, friends! Can you believe we’ve nearly made it to the end of another year? What a year it’s been. Despite everything that’s happened and how different this season looks, it always brings me great joy to prepare our home for the holidays — and tonight I’m thrilled to share our Mid Century Meets Boho Holiday Decor! Even though it will just be the two of us this Christmas, I knew I wanted to keep things fun, fresh and festive this holiday season. This is our third year decorating our recently refreshed inner city Calgary apartment for the holidays — although our holiday decor went up much later than I originally intended, we love the way it came together. In fact, I think this year’s holiday decor may just be my favourite yet! As always, I mixed high, low, old and new to infuse the apartment with Christmas spirit — and today I’m detailing exactly how I pulled it all together!

Whether you’ve been with me here at JustineCelina for years or have just recently joined (welcome!), you’ll know I’m all about finding creative ways to make my favourite pieces feel fresh again — be it in my home or in your wardrobe. That said, given the state of the world (and in light of the current restrictions here in Alberta), I knew didn’t want to rely on having to shop in person for our holiday tree this year. So, instead of purchasing fresh tree as we’ve done in years past, I decided to have some fun with it and ordered a flocked artificial tree — and I adore the effect! Other than our tree and a few small decor pieces, everything else we’ve owned for years. As we live in an apartment with limited storage, it’s simply not practical for us to purchase entirely new decor each season (but to be honest, I don’t think that’s practical for anyone!). GLUTEN FREE MAPLED PUMPKIN CHAI BREAD

Foodie friends, who’s up for some healthier, pre-holiday baking? I’m thrilled to finally share my Gluten Free Mapled Pumpkin Chai Bread with you today after just over a year of recipe development! I’ve mentioned previously that due to my extensive recipe testing and development process and focus on seasonal ingredients, oftentimes recipes take over a year to make it to JustineCelina. As with any piece of content I share on this pages, quality is my top priority! Over the course of the five times (yes, really!) I’ve baked, tweaked and meticulously tested this delicious seasonal loaf, it’s become one of our all-time-favourite recipes — and I hope you enjoy it just as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it for you. I’ve also included a handful of my favourite local grocers and vendors where I picked up all of the ingredients I’ve used in this recipe. Now more than ever, local businesses need our support and I’d like to ask you to consider how you can support your local economy (in whatever capacity you’re able to) as we transition into the holiday season.

My Gluten Free Mapled Pumpkin Chai Bread typifies late autumn by combining two of my favourite seasonal flavour profiles in one deceptively decadent, easy-to-bake loaf that’s free of dairy, gluten, refined sugar and oil. Exceptionally moist and perfectly spiced, this simple, seasonal pumpkin bread tastes like an indulgent fall cake, but is loaded with nourishing ingredients and warm, healing spices! Pumpkin puree, creamy coconut milk, pure Canadian maple syrup and a splash of Mexican vanilla extract are beautifully complimented by a rich melange of quintessential chai spices — including cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice, cardamon and anise. The result is an incredibly delicious ‘free from’ pumpkin loaf to be enjoyed by plant based eaters, those with food allergies and sensitivities and anyone that loves delicious seasonal baking! FALL 2020 LOOKBOOK

Fall fashion lovers, I’m thrilled to welcome you back for another seasonally inspired LOOKBOOK! Since publishing my Early Autumn 2020 Lookbook, there have been a few notable developments here in Calgary in regards to new public health measures to combat the second wave of COVID-19 we’re currently experiencing. I’ve been fairly quiet here at JustineCelina as we navigated what Alberta’s new restrictions look like for us and our businesses ahead of the holiday season. In light of these recent announcements, we decided against shooting the final three winter looks I had planned for this LOOKBOOK outdoors. As social gatherings of any kind are prohibited both in our homes as well as outdoors, it simply doesn’t feel like the right time to do so. As I’ve mentioned previously, these restrictions are something I take very seriously. These LOOKBOOKS showcase what I’m authentically wearing each season — and getting dressed up with quite literally no where to go simply didn’t resonate with me. Since we’re all staying in these days, I knew it wouldn’t resonate with you either!

That said, I didn’t want that to stop me from from serving up one final dose of late fall fashion here at JustineCelina this season while we’re all cozied up at home! Alas, the fall looks we captured earlier this autumn were collecting dust on my hard drive and I wanted to bring them to life, even if this LOOKBOOK doesn’t follow my typical 6 outfit format. MY TOP 5 PUMPKIN SPICE LIPSTICKS

Fall is my favourite time of year for many reasons — but something I look forward to each year is pulling out all my favourite warm, cozy lip colours (and trying a few new ones!) to mark the change in seasons. Last autumn as I was organizing my vanity for the season, I noticed a major theme — all of my most-worn autumn lip colours had a very similar, pumpkin spice inspired colour story (yes, I actually began working on My Top 5 Pumpkin Spice Lipsticks post last fall!). Although I may be the only woman on the planet who isn’t into Pumpkin Spice Lattes (shocking, I know!), I can definitely appreciate the inspiration behind this quintessentially autumnal beverage. So naturally, I thought this concept would make a fantastic addition to my seasonal BEAUTY content here at JustineCelina! I absolutely love to embrace each season as fully as possible — whether it be in my personal style, beauty routine, home or what I choose to nourish my body with. While a lot has changed in 2020, my love of fall beauty remains — and although I’m not wearing as much makeup as I did pre-pandemic (or getting glammed up nearly as often), I still love to treat myself to a beautiful, seasonal makeup application for an instant confidence boost.
