HOW TO STYLE | KIMONOS FOR AUTUMN

Friends, I’ve never been more excited to share a FASHION post here at JustineCelina as I am today! If you follow along via my socials, you’ll know that we took a trip to the Alberta Badlands on an unseasonably warm (and windy!) day last week to shoot some new autumn style content. This look is the first of 3 captured against this stunning landscape that will be rolling out over the next month or so — and they’re some of my favourite images we’ve ever created, fashion wise! Today’s post also marks the revival of my HOW TO STYLE series — where I take specific on-trend item that you might not think you can pull off, may be intimidated by, or may not think is wearable for a certain season. If you frequent my style archives, you’ll know just how much I love kimonos — but did you know they’re actually one of my favourite pieces to wear year round? Today I’m sharing my best tips and tricks for styling kimonos for autumn, as well as a handful of my favourite casual fall wardrobe staples!

I mentioned earlier in October that since cutting my fringe I feel completely reinspired fashion wise. I’d always wanted take a trip to the Badlands to capture style content and I figured an 18°C day in October was as good a time as any! Typically, we photograph style content as I’m actually wearing things (it’s more authentic to me that way), but I was itching to try something new. So, I packed up the car with outfits and gear — and we headed an hour northwest of my childhood home in rural Alberta to the Drumheller area for a change of scenery. As we journeyed into the desert and beautiful backdrops unfolded around every turn I marveled at how traveling just a couple of hours can really inspire the content and it’s something I want to do a lot more of in the future! Come along with me on a virtual adventure to the Badlands as I break down this free spirited autumn look — complete with tons of shoppable links at every price point, plus tips on how to distress your own denim (I DIY’ed this pair myself)!

COLOURPOP SUPER SHOCK SHADOW PHOTOS, REVIEW, SWATCHES | 22 SHADES!

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve published a dedicated beauty review, but this is one has been on my list for the better part of 2017! Today I’m thrilled to share a comprehensive review of one of my all time favourite eyeshadow formulas — the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows. I fell head over heels for Colourpop in 2015 (just browse the JustineCelina BEAUTY archives!), went absolutely crazy and purchased about a million of their eyeshadows (and lip products, and highlighters, and… well, you get the idea!). Since then, this innovative, affordable LA based brand has exploded and now offers 90 Super Shock Shadow shades (and trust me, I’ve had to restrain myself from buying almost every single one!). I’ve owned many of their Super Shock Shadows since 2015 — some of which I’ve completely used up (and had to repurchase) and some that are now discontinued. So today, I’m sharing reviews, photos and swatches of the 22 shades I own that are currently available!

Colourpop’s Super Shock Shadows retail at $5.00 USD for 2.1g (0.074oz) and the quality is truly incomparable to anything on the market today. In 2015 when they first launched, the formula was completely revolutionary — a creme-powder with a unique bouncy texture. The pigmentation is intense, the shades are unique and they wear all day (and night) without fading or creasing. They’re also cruelty free and handmade in LA. I haven’t actually published reviews on most of my favourite shades here at JustineCelina because they don’t really fall into my Monthly Favourites category (since they’re staples I reach for regularly, sometimes products like this slip through the cracks!), so I figured it was about time to introduce you. If you’re an eyeshadow lover looking for some fantastic, affordable shadows (or want deets on my must haves from the range) this post is for you!

FALLING BACK | REFRESHING OLD STAPLES FOR A NEW SEASON

Happy first weekend of… fall?! Somehow, we skipped autumn entirely this week and went straight from almost 30°C weather to snow and frigid, negative temperatures. As we’ve established, autumn is my favourite time of year, but this week I was forced to bust out my cold weather pieces — I hadn’t even finished getting my fall wardrobe together, yet wintery conditions were upon us. It was time to get creative (and warm!) and make the most of my existing wardrobe — but the good news is that our drastic weather shift here in Calgary inspired today’s post all about refreshing old favourites for a new season! Absolutely everything I’m wearing today is something I’ve owned for several months or years — and you’ve also seen most of these pieces here at JustineCelina previously.

Although I love to shop just as much as the next girl (and now it’s even become part of the way I earn a living!), I think there’s something to be said for learning how to make the most of your existing wardrobe when the seasons change and looking to new sources of inspiration to inform your sartorial choices. That’s exactly what I did for today’s look — I can’t wait to share how I styled these well loved wardrobe staples through fresh eyes for Autumn 2017 to reflect current seasonal trends! If you’re looking to maximize your existing wardrobe this season, get cozy with me tonight as I pull out my coats, sweater dresses, OTK boots, velvet accessories, fall florals and autumnal lip colours!

DIGITAL BLOOMS SEPTEMBER 2017 | FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS

Flower loving friends, the first month of autumn is upon us — and we’re easing into it slowly here at JustineCelina with September 2017’s Free Desktop Wallpapers! This month, Rebecca Dawn Design and I were inspired by the PANTONE Fall 2017 Fashion Color Report for September’s DIGITAL BLOOMS (yes, we’re back on those Pantone Colour Reports again… expect to become very familiar with this one over the next few months and I work with this palette across categories!). This month’s free floral wallpapers are a little bit summer and a little bit fall, just like this gorgeous month — I think they’re my favourite set yet!

September has us lusting after Pantone’s Ballet Slipper, Butterum, Autumn Maple, Golden Lime, Tawny Port and Neutral Grey — I’m crazy about those deep tones and warm neutrals accent by pops of blush and grey to keep things light and airy as we transition into Autumn 2017. If you’re ready to embrace the seasonal change and a brand new colour story on the background of your computer, tablet or phone, click through to download September’s Digital blooms! We’re curated a lovely collection of fresh flowers, foliage and berries — including Quicksand and Mother of Pearl Roses (learn more about them here), Tinted Solidago, Angel Wings Begonia leaves, Larkspur, Poppy Pods, Hypericum, Sweet Peas and Ranunulus (other than being one of our favourite flowers, did you know they’re in season almost year round?). Oh, and if you’re new around here (welcome!) — yes, they really are absolutely free!

SUMMER TO AUTUMN 2017 TREND GUIDE | ORANGE CRUSH

I’m strutting into September with fresh TREND GUIDE for this transitional time of year! Today I’m sharing a versatile look that I’ve worn many times this summer in both personal and professional settings — and I’m also showing you how to style it into the first days of autumn. I’m planning to enjoy summer for as long as I possibly can — the weather is exceptionally beautiful here in Calgary (there was actually a heat warning on the day we shot this post and it was 34 °C!) and therefore I’m going to utilize every possible opportunity to wear sandals and open toed shoes (Canadian girls, I know you feel me)!

In this pre-fall look, I’m merging a handful of key trends from Summer / Autumn 2017 — including orange, butterum, eyelet, embroidery, cork and natural textured accessories, bright whites, strappy sandals and tailored, wide leg trousers. I’m finally showing off my birthday present here at JustineCelina (to myself, from myself!) — the absolutely stunning, Gaia’s Ark Bamboo Clutch (which has been on heavy rotation in my summer wardrobe but hasn’t yet made it to the blog!). I’m also sharing autumn styling options by simply changing up my accessories to include an office appropriate, daytime bag that doubles as a briefcase, gorgeous tasseled pumps a classic watch! And last but not least, it’s that time of year again — today I’m introducing you to the PANTONE Fall 2017 Fashion Color Report and chatting about how you can incorporate fall colour trends into your wardrobe right now to extend the life of your favourite summer pieces as we transition into autumn. If you’re not quite sure what to wear during this time of year, hang out with me today for some fresh ideas and outfit inspiration as I style this colourful look for both seasons!
