MY DRY JANUARY EXPERIENCE

Friends, I’m elated to be back today with the first completely new piece of content I’ve created in 2021, dedicated to My Dry January Experience. You may have noticed that things have been more quiet than usual lately as I took a step back from content creation to refocus my time, attention and resources on reviewing 2020 and getting inspired for the year ahead. While January wasn’t the most exciting or glamorous month, I’m so grateful I finally gave myself permission to focus on what matters and align with my goals! This Dry January involved a lot of self reflection, accountability and honesty about my blogging and entrepreneurial journey and where I want to take it. 2020 was an incredibly challenging year for so many, myself included — but it was peppered with experiences and wisdom that have afforded me a greater clarity than I’ve ever experienced. As a result, I’ve emerged from 2020 a much different person (as I’m sure many of us have!).

This time last year were in Huatulco and I was sipping a mezcalrita with my toes in the sand — oh how times have changed! Despite the drastically different circumstances of present times, this isn’t my first January, or sober month. It’s something I do whenever I feel I need a hard reset — and I’ve always found it to be in incredibly rewarding experience! If you’ve always wanted to try a Dry January (or sober month) but aren’t sure what to expect, are looking for some strategies to ensure success, or are curious about the benefits and positive new habits I’ve adopted, this post is for you. Top up your coupe glass with your favourite kombucha and join me for a raw, transparent recap of My Dry January Experience and how it changed my relationship with alcohol!

20+ HEALTHY RECIPES TO KICK START THE NEW YEAR

After an indulgent holiday season, I always look forward to getting back on track and into a routine that supports my overall well being in January. During the first week of each new year, I find myself searching my FOOD archives for my healthiest winter recipes — and know you’re doing the same, as my views on these posts skyrocket. So, I created my 20+ Healthy Recipes to Kick Start The New Year roundup! This mega post contains over 20 of my healthiest, freshest, plant-based recipes incorporating all the gorgeous seasonal produce available to us in early January, for easy browsing reference. From breakfast through dinner, with nourishing snacks, fresh juices and smoothies along the way, you’ll find everything you need to create a healthy January meal plan in this post! As always, my recipes are free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar — and most are vegetarian / vegan. I’ve indicated these categories in this post with convenient labels so you can easily find what you’re looking for!

Although I do my best to maintain my plant-based diet over the holidays, I firmly believe in balance — you better believe I indulge in my fair share of treats as well! As someone with dairy and gluten sensitivities, I find my digestion can easily get thrown out of whack when I’m not being as mindful while I’m eating, drink and being merry. My favourite ways to kick start my metabolism and get things running smoothly again is by treating my body to lots of colourful fruits and veggies, juices and smoothies, hearty salads and bowls, plant-based entrées and simple, wholesome soups. I also aim to keep my snacking to a minimum and give the baking and the booze a rest (you won’t find any snacks, baking or cocktail recipes in this roundup). Who else is having a dry January this year? If you’re in need of some fresh recipes to help fuel these first few weeks of the new year with intention, you’ve come to the right place — pour yourself a mug of herbal tea and come peruse my all-time-favourite, nourishing winter recipes!

JANUARY DIGITAL BLOOMS ROUNDUP | 8 FREE TECH WALLPAPERS

Flower friends, welcome back for the first post of 2022! Today marks the end of an era here at JustineCelina, as it’s the first month since DIGITAL BLOOMS inception back in April 2016 that I’m not providing a new free floral wallpaper for download (yes, you read that correctly!). I spent much of 2021 letting go of things that no longer served me and making space for what’s next so I could live and work in greater alignment. This facilitated a lot of strategizing around how I could continue to grow my blog and business in 2022. Longtime readers will know I’ve mentioned I would love to extend my DIGITAL BLOOMS into a series of calendar-based digital and print products (this is something many of you have requested as well!), however, given the volume of content I previously produced each month and the resources required, it simply wasn’t possible. So, it’s time for a change! I’m pleased to announce that I’m dedicated the first few months of 2022 to carving out what’s next for JustineCelina Digital Blooms and am feeling very inspired to refocus and finally tackle the e-commerce component of my brand!

But, not to worry! My extensive archive of tech wallpapers will remain available for free download here at JustineCelina, regardless of the additional products I develop. While I work away on what’s next, each month this year I’ll publish a roundup of free floral tech wallpapers for easy browsing. Even if you’re a die hard DIGITAL BLOOMS fan, surely you haven’t downloaded each of the 8 free January tech wallpapers I’ve produced over the years, have you?! Freshen up your tech for 2022 by choosing from my best free floral tech wallpapers featuring a stunning array of seasonal winter flowers and foliage, crisp colour palettes and inventive arrangements to enjoy on the background of your computer, tablet or phone. As always, I hope January’s Digital Blooms bring you joy and inspiration as we ease into a fresh new year. Thank you so much for your continued support as I shift my focus to expanding JustineCelina DIGITAL BLOOMS into digital and print based products this year! I could have never imagined how successful this series would become and can’t wait to continue explore all the new possibilities that lie ahead as I break ground on a longstanding business goal. Wishing you all a wonderful new year!

DECEMBER 2020 SOUNDTRACK + BONUS 2020 SOUNDTRACK

As 2020 draws to a close, I’m sharing two fresh playlists for all your NYE listening needs! First up, my December 2020 Soundtrack — a short n’ sweet playlist featuring 37 of my favourite tracks from the month! As usual, you can expect an eclectic melange of genres, artists and sounds airing on the instrumental side that helped me through the pre-holiday hustle in this MONTHLY SOUNDTRACK. I discovered Spotify’s Focus Music playlist in December, which is where many of my inclusions are gleaned from! A handful of my favourite tracks include Orange Stick’s stripped down rendition of Kayne’s Runaway, That’s Cool’s Believe, Franco Robert’s Hola, Andrew Gialanella’s Remainder, Rhian Sheenan’s Little Sines, Attom’s Oasis, Christopher Willitis’s remix of Tycho’s Into The Woods, Brother Tiger’s Sunset District, Sonalis’s Flux, Young Lungs I Want My Life To Change, Lil Skate’s Living,  Satin Jacket’s A Higher Place, Joey Pecoraro’s Movie Night and  Digital Farm Animals remix of You’re The One For Me.

If you’re in need of even more fresh tunes, check out my Spotify Wrapped 2020 Soundtrack, featuring my 100 most played songs from 2020! I really look forward to these automatically compiled, year-in-review playlists — they bring back the best memories. If you’re looking for some easy listening, feel good, inspirational music to enjoy as we wind down 2020 at home with a bottle of bubbly, this is your playlist. No matter what you’re up to this New Years Eve in quarantine, I hope you all have a peaceful, joyful and safe evening! Thank you for spending the final day of 2020 with me and for your continued support. I’ll no longer be publishing monthly soundtracks here at JustineCelina in 2021 in an effort to optimize my time, refine my content and pursue my larger goals (more on that coming soon!). That said, you can always come join me on Spotify, where I’ll continue to share what I’m listening to each month. Happy New Year and cheers to brighter days ahead in 2021!

GILDED VANILLA PEAR SPARKLER

Happy New Years Eve Eve, craft COCKTAIL lovers! After a restful holiday vacation, I’m back today with a fresh cocktail recipe (and a fun giveaway) to help you send 2020 off in style! My Gilded Vanilla Pear Sparkler is a glitzy, French 75 inspired sparkling cocktail nuanced with an elegant seasonal flavour profile and premium ingredients (including Eau Claire Distillery’s 24 karat gold infused Christmas Gin!). Although this NYE in quarantine is unlike the celebrations of years past we’ve become accustomed to, that doesn’t mean it has to be any less glamorous or memorable — and if you’re looking for an NYE inspired sip to celebrate the end of a challenging year, I have just the recipe. I invite you to put your best suit or dress on, dust off your crystal and toast 2020’s departure (good riddance!) with me in the comfort of your own homes, JustineCelina style!

Inspired by all things glittering and gold, Eau Claire Distillery‘s Limited Edition Christmas Gin  combines with Brut Prosecco, Italian vanilla liqueur, bright lemon juice and a stunning Honeyed Vanilla Pear Syrup where Bosc pears are poached in decadent Canadian honey alongside Tahitian vanilla extract. The result is an opulent, gold infused winter cocktail that’s equal parts creamy, crisp and refreshing — and it couldn’t be easier to mix up at home! To help spread some holiday cheer, I’ve partnered with Eau Claire Distillery to give away a full sized bottle of Christmas Gin and 2 coupe glasses to one of my Canadian friends — you’ll find details on how to enter near the bottom of the post (this giveaway has now closed). Cheers to a brighter 2021!

MID CENTURY MEETS BOHO HOLIDAY DECOR

Happy holidays, friends! Can you believe we’ve nearly made it to the end of another year? What a year it’s been. Despite everything that’s happened and how different this season looks, it always brings me great joy to prepare our home for the holidays — and tonight I’m thrilled to share our Mid Century Meets Boho Holiday Decor! Even though it will just be the two of us this Christmas, I knew I wanted to keep things fun, fresh and festive this holiday season. This is our third year decorating our recently refreshed inner city Calgary apartment for the holidays — although our holiday decor went up much later than I originally intended, we love the way it came together. In fact, I think this year’s holiday decor may just be my favourite yet! As always, I mixed high, low, old and new to infuse the apartment with Christmas spirit — and today I’m detailing exactly how I pulled it all together!

Whether you’ve been with me here at JustineCelina for years or have just recently joined (welcome!), you’ll know I’m all about finding creative ways to make my favourite pieces feel fresh again — be it in my home or in your wardrobe. That said, given the state of the world (and in light of the current restrictions here in Alberta), I knew didn’t want to rely on having to shop in person for our holiday tree this year. So, instead of purchasing fresh tree as we’ve done in years past, I decided to have some fun with it and ordered a flocked artificial tree — and I adore the effect! Other than our tree and a few small decor pieces, everything else we’ve owned for years. As we live in an apartment with limited storage, it’s simply not practical for us to purchase entirely new decor each season (but to be honest, I don’t think that’s practical for anyone!). If you’re in search of some creative holiday DIYs and boho Christmas decorating ideas, you’ve come to the right place — join me for a glass of bubbly as I share how I created a warm, modern and inviting holiday atmosphere in our home this season!
