ROSEMARY FIG JAPANESE WHISKY SOUR

Fig season is upon us — and I’m back today with a fresh, summer meets autumn sip to celebrate! My Rosemary Fig Japanese Whisky Sour was actually conceived at the height of quarantine back in April (when we were encouraged to limit our grocery runs as much as possible) — another exercise in using what we had on hand to to whip up a comforting COCKTAIL at home. Despite this recipe using fig preserves (rather than fresh figs you see photographed), I waited patiently for fig season to bring this inventive cocktail to life — simply so I could make it as beautiful as possible! And while I never thought I’d be incorporating Japanese whisky or egg whites into a cocktail — here we are. 2020 has been full of curveballs, but one thing is has been good for is nurturing my mixology skills and pushing me to create more resourceful, experimental recipes! There have been many a Rosemary Fig Japanese Whisky Sour consumed this year as this recipe underwent an intensive testing process to ensure it was shaken to perfection — and I’m elated to finally bring it to JustineCelina this fall!

My Rosemary Fig Japanese Whisky Sour is a deliciously luxurious juxtaposition of fall flavours and textures that you can shake up at home. This creative cocktail is creamy, smoky, sweet and sour — enveloping your tastebuds in early autumn inspired warmth! Premium Japanese whisky (thanks to Adam’s latest spirit obsession!) combines with egg whites (with a vegan option), fig syrup, bitters, fresh lemon juice and a sprig of rosemary, shaken into a comforting sip that celebrates quintessential fall flavours in cocktail form. Good morning, flower friends! I’m thrilled to bring you October 2020’s Free Floral Wallpaper today — featuring an entirely local selection of flowers, wild grasses and foraged prairie foliage in celebration of harvest season. Last month you read all about our trip to Bowden SunMaze & Eagle Creek Farms where I handpicked the flowers you’ll see in my Autumn 2020 Digital Blooms here at JustineCelina — and I couldn’t be more excited to begin sharing them with you! My first u-pick flower experience was absolutely magical and I had so much fun strolling up and down the rows, clippers in hand, curating ingredients for my upcoming FLOWER content. That weekend, I foraged our country property for wild additions as the fall colours were just starting to trickle in to the landscape — and I came home with a bucket full of wild grasses, berries and early autumn foliage to play with. I also spent the weekend painting some new custom backdrops in a palette inspired by the Pantone Autumn/Winter 2020/2021 Colour Trend Report, which you’ll see in my content moving forward — starting with October 2020’s Digital Blooms!

SUMMER 2020 LOOKBOOK + STYLE CONTENT UPDATE

Friends and fashionistas, I’m absolutely elated to bring you the first LOOKBOOK I’ve published since April — my Summer 2020 Lookbook! It would be an incredible understatement to say that 2020 hasn’t shaped up the way any of us could have predicted and that our lifestyles have changed dramatically as a result of COVID-19. While FASHION is one of my true loves and lifelong passions, I made the decision to pause my regularly scheduled seasonal LOOKBOOKS from May through August to embrace a slower pace of life, navigate through some incredibly difficult situations and make a conscious effort to be grateful for what I have, while being mindful of my spending. Given the state of the world and the economy, it simply didn’t feel right to promote purchasing new clothing during the height of a pandemic. And to be completely transparent, I was also feeling quite uninspired fashion wise as all of the events, meetings and occasions that would typically inspire my style content had halted — as I’m sure many of you can relate! Although I was able to experiment with self portraiture and push the boundaries of my home studio set up to produce some beautiful content during quarantine, it’s safe to say I reached the limit of how of many chic loungewear outfit ideas or breezy spring dresses I could shoot in my Living Room with my self timer and tripod!

A change of scenery after 3 months of quarantine was exactly what I needed to feel re-inspired — so I packed up and headed to my childhood home in rural Alberta to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the country while capturing my Summer 2020 Lookbook (with my Mom back behind the lens for many of the images I’m sharing today!). This summer I find myself seeking simplicity and comfort in every area of my life — and that’s definitely reflected in my wardrobe. Purchasing timeless, easy to wear pieces in multiple colourways has been a common theme this summer — and I’ve expanded my summer wardrobe with some fantastic, affordable basics I know I’ll enjoy for years to come. While I’ll always enjoy incorporating trends into my wardrobe in a way that’s authentic to my personal style, this year, I find myself increasingly drawn to classic pieces. These days, fashion moves fast — and I find myself moving in exactly the opposite direction as I mindfully curate my wardrobe. I’ve been living in breezy, effortless silhouettes made from linen, cotton and natural, lightweight fabrics — my summer style has never been more casual (or comfortable) and I’m fully embracing it! Adventure to the tranquil Alberta prairies with me today as I fuse my love of free spirited fashion and stunning natural landscapes in my Summer 2020 Lookbook — featuring 12 effortless, accessible, classic seasonal looks, plus tips on how to transition key pieces into autumn. Flower friends, welcome back for an extra cheerful August Edition of DIGITAL BLOOMS! Shifting gears from July’s prairie-inspired Edition, this month I wanted to create something extra bright, joyful and uplifting inspired by summer’s blooming gardens. August 2020’s Digital Blooms feature a lovely array of some of very favourite flowers — including White Ranunculus, Yellow Butterfly Ranunculus (learn All About Ranunculus), Blush and White Tulips (learn All About Tulips) along with Quicksand and Yellow Spray Roses (learn All About Roses) arranged with whimsy. There’s something about the combination of blush pinks, yellow and cream that feels quintessentially summer to me — it’s a palette I also find myself enjoying in my wardrobe and home at this time of year!

JUNE 2020 SOUNDTRACK + SUMMER FASHION FAVS

The first month of summer is drawing to a close — and that means it’s time for my June 2020 Soundtrack! June was an intense month as we moved into Phase 2 of our economic reopening in Calgary and also collectively experienced the largest civil rights movement in history. Amidst it all, we also decided to form a cohort with my family in rural Alberta and have been spending as much time enjoying the tranquility of the prairies as possible! We finally planted that Country Garden I’ve been dreaming about for years (posts to follow!) and it’s been quite a reflective, but healing, month. Over the years, these rolling hills and sunlit fields have always been where I come to feel grounded, creative and free. I’m so grateful for this magical, restorative place — now more than ever. Although COVID has brought with it many challenges, it’s also brought many gifts. In a time when the whole world feels like it’s on pause, I’m making the most of every last second by living and working intentionally, authentically and in alignment with my true self.

MY FAVOURITE FLORAL FRAGRANCES

Fragrance lovers, I’m ecstatic to share this post with you today after an unintentional hiatus! Although I’ve always had a fondness for fragrance and have amassed quite the collection over the course of my blogging career, it’s been 3 years since I published my last dedicated FRAGRANCE post.
