JULY 2O2O SOUNDTRACK + THE PERFECT LINEN SUNDRESS

My July 2020 Soundtrack is undoubtedly my favourite of the year — and I’m so excited to share it with you today! This 33 track playlist features nearly 2 hours of ultra dreamy, uplifting tunes that have been decorating my summer days and keeping me inspired. MUSIC has always played a big role in my life and is inherently tied to my creative process, as I’m always listening to music while I work away on various projects before I bring them to JustineCelina. July was a very creatively fulfilling month with the perfect mixture of fresh scenery, local travel, lots of gardening and many photoshoots with our stunning Alberta prairies as a backdrop — and this feel-good soundtrack encompasses all the creative, happy vibes July was made of!

This month I could highlight every single track in this playlist as a favourite — so instead, I’ll just let you take a listen! As I did last month, I’m also infusing some STYLE content into this month’s Soundtrack and introducing you to my perfect linen sundress — which I purchased in 5 colourways and have literally been living in all summer long. If you’re interested in additional details, you’ll find them towards the bottom of the post, along with an update on when you can expect my Summer 2020 Lookbook, which I’ve been working away on BTS all month! (Canadian) friends, have an absolutely wonderful long weekend — and whatever you’re up to, I hope you all stay safe and well!

HOW TO CREATE A LILAC BOUQUET

Lilac season is upon us once again here on the Alberta prairies — and I absolutely adore these magical, fleeting few weeks! So, I thought it was the perfect time to revitalize this ancient post in my FLOWER ARRANGING series about How to Create a Lilac Bouquet (originally published 5 years ago!) with some fresh images and content. Over the past 5 years I’ve learned a lot about flowers, urban foraging and how to work with lilacs and I’m thrilled to share my updated knowledge, along with step-by-step instructions on exactly how I created this ultra dreamy, oversized lilac arrangement for our coffee table! We’re fortunate to have 2 abundant lilac trees on the vacant lot behind our apartment and each year, I look forward to early June when I pop over with my tote bag and clippers in tow to forage some fresh lilac branches (with permission, of course!) for various projects and recipes!

No matter the weather, I’m always looking for creative ways to bring the outside in — and lilac season is the perfect opportunity to preserve late spring’s beauty while adding a splash of colour and intoxicating scent to your space. Not only are these lavender hued blossoms absolutely gorgeous, they’re also free making it simple and accessible to create a no cost arrangement for your home to welcome summer’s arrival. Whether you’d like to learn more about lilacs, brush up on urban foraging, or stopped by for tips on how to arrange lilac branches to create a beautiful bouquet and that lasts as long as possible, you’ve come to the right place — pour yourself a glass of crisp rosé and take a seat in my Living Room as I share some serious lilac knowledge!

H&M WILDFLOWER COLLECTION REVIEW

Friends and fashionistas, I’m thrilled to share my first FASHION post of 2021 with you (it’s about time, isn’t it?!) dedicated to H&M‘s ultra dreamy A Meadow of Wildflowers Collection! Although my personal style and shopping habits have changed significantly as a result of the pandemic, I eagerly comprised my wishlist as soon as I saw previews of this collection pop up online last month. H&M‘s Wildflower Collection is a Spring 2021 release hailing from their Conscious range — featuring elegant, timeless silhouettes made from 100% organic cotton and linen, inspired by their print designers favourite wildflowers recreated in watercolour. Of all the limited edition collections H&M has released (many of which I’ve worn, loved and featured here at JustineCelina over the years!) this the collection of dreams for my free-spirited, art college educated, flower loving soul!

As soon as the (partial) collection arrived online in Canada, I ordered every piece on my wishlist available in my sizes. Shortly after their arrival, we spent an evening venturing around the stunning natural landscapes near my childhood home in rural Alberta capturing these images — and it felt incredible to get excited about shooting fashion content outdoors after a long winter! As of publication, many of these pieces are now sold out online — and some pieces on my wishlist also aren’t yet available online, but are available in store, so I suggest keeping an eye out for online restocks or using the in-store locator to source specific pieces near you. That said, I wanted to publish my dedicated H&M Wildflower Collection Review for you as soon as possible, so you can use it to inform your collection purchases! Accompany me to the sun drenched, wildflower laden fields of the Alberta prairies for my bohemian spin on the collection, styled up with spring and summer accessory staples. As always, this post is complete with shoppable links for both Canada and the US!

5 FESTIVE CINCO DE MAYO COCKTAILS

Fellow tequila and mezcal lovers, I’m elated to share the first my first recipe roundup dedicated exclusively to cocktails with my 5 Festive Cinco De Mayo Cocktails post! If you’re a fan of my better-for-you libations, you’ll know my love of tequila and mezcal runs deep — as does my adoration of Mexican culture. Over the past decade, we’ve been fortunate to spend quite a bit of time in Oaxaca (specifically Huatulco — one of my favourite places in the world!) and discover many fantastic artisanal tequila and mezcal varieties, visit agave farms and learn about authentic spirits and cocktail making from the locals. In fact, our home bar is always stocked with several varieties of tequila and mezcal from our travels — and I typically have a few Mexican-inspired sips in development at any given time! So today, in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, I’ve rounded up my most popular tequila and mezcal based cocktails — which all happen to be vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free! Hey, life is all about balance, right?!

While we may be celebrating Cinco De Mayo digitally this year, that doesn’t mean we can’t do it over a fantastic cocktail (or 5!). Can I interest you in a Green Jalapeño Margarita, Gingered Cara Cara Grapefruit PalomaWatermelon Frosé MargaritaHibiscus Blood Orange Mezcalrita or a Creamy Coconut Mango Mezcalrita? There’s never been a better time to learn how to shake up a Mexican-inspired cocktail in the comfort of your own home — all you need is a cocktail shaker, a bottle of your favourite tequila or mezcal and a few simple, fresh, supporting ingredients. Join me for a crash course on tequila and mezcal (plus recommendations to pair with each recipe) as we shake up a few festive cocktails tonight in celebration of the vibrancy and resilience of Mexican culture!

FALL 2020 LOOKBOOK

Fall fashion lovers, I’m thrilled to welcome you back for another seasonally inspired LOOKBOOK! Since publishing my Early Autumn 2020 Lookbook, there have been a few notable developments here in Calgary in regards to new public health measures to combat the second wave of COVID-19 we’re currently experiencing. I’ve been fairly quiet here at JustineCelina as we navigated what Alberta’s new restrictions look like for us and our businesses ahead of the holiday season. In light of these recent announcements, we decided against shooting the final three winter looks I had planned for this LOOKBOOK outdoors. As social gatherings of any kind are prohibited both in our homes as well as outdoors, it simply doesn’t feel like the right time to do so. As I’ve mentioned previously, these restrictions are something I take very seriously. These LOOKBOOKS showcase what I’m authentically wearing each season — and getting dressed up with quite literally no where to go simply didn’t resonate with me. Since we’re all staying in these days, I knew it wouldn’t resonate with you either!

That said, I didn’t want that to stop me from from serving up one final dose of late fall fashion here at JustineCelina this season while we’re all cozied up at home! Alas, the fall looks we captured earlier this autumn were collecting dust on my hard drive and I wanted to bring them to life, even if this LOOKBOOK doesn’t follow my typical 6 outfit format. But hey — 2020 is anything but typical, right?! My Fall 2020 Lookbook features 3 creative, free spirited, trend focused fall 2020 outfits built on foundational, quality wardrobe staples. As always, you can expect a melange of high, low, old, new and vintage — as well as shoppable links at every price point. If you’re looking for a sartorial escape during lockdown, join me this evening for  inventive layering tips to get the most of your wardrobe as we transition into winter, my process for pulling together elegant cool weather looks and a chat about how my personal style (and shopping habits) have changed as a result of the pandemic. Pour yourself a juicy glass of pinot noir and settle in for a fleeting dose of late autumn fashion on the Alberta prairies — complete with both rural and urban style inspiration and additional face mask recommendations!

Friends and fashionistas, I’m thrilled to bring some structure and familiarity back to my STYLE content today with this 6 outfit, Early Autumn 2020 Lookbook — my first since April! While 2020 has thrown all semblance of order and routine for a loop, one thing that remains is my love of fall fashion. Each autumn I go into content creation overdrive creating and capturing things that inspire me! And despite life looking quite a bit different than it did this time last year, I was determined to not let COVID put a damper on my personal style. Regardless of the pandemic, dressing up and dressing well allows me to present the best, most confident and truest version of myself to the world — and I simply refused to let my stilettos collect dust for another season! Those of you who’ve been with me for awhile here at JustineCelina will know I theme my content seasonally, as I’m always looking to nature for inspiration — taking cues from the changing landscape to inform both my creative work and my personal style. It felt incredible  to reignite my passion for pulling together looks, capturing them beautiful settings and curating them into one my signature, seasonal LOOKBOOKS

That said, no matter the setting, my wardrobe has become more casual, comfortable and practical than ever this year — and it’s a very welcome shift. The majority of the pieces I’ve added to my wardrobe in 2020 are ultra versatile to suit a variety of occasions — whether I’m working from home, enjoying a quiet evening in or heading out for a (very rare) occasional celebration. Today I’m elated to share my go-to styling tips for extending your summer wardrobe into autumn, innovative layering techniques, favourite retailers, cozy seasonal staple pieces and wearable trends incorporated into 6 relaxed, bohemian inspired looks suitable for a variety of climates. SUMMER 2020 LOOKBOOK + STYLE CONTENT UPDATE

Friends and fashionistas, I’m absolutely elated to bring you the first LOOKBOOK I’ve published since April — my Summer 2020 Lookbook! It would be an incredible understatement to say that 2020 hasn’t shaped up the way any of us could have predicted and that our lifestyles have changed dramatically as a result of COVID-19. While FASHION is one of my true loves and lifelong passions, I made the decision to pause my regularly scheduled seasonal LOOKBOOKS from May through August to embrace a slower pace of life, navigate through some incredibly difficult situations and make a conscious effort to be grateful for what I have, while being mindful of my spending. Given the state of the world and the economy, it simply didn’t feel right to promote purchasing new clothing during the height of a pandemic. And to be completely transparent, I was also feeling quite uninspired fashion wise as all of the events, meetings and occasions that would typically inspire my style content had halted — as I’m sure many of you can relate! Although I was able to experiment with self portraiture and push the boundaries of my home studio set up to produce some beautiful content during quarantine, it’s safe to say I reached the limit of how of many chic loungewear outfit ideas or breezy spring dresses I could shoot in my Living Room with my self timer and tripod!

A change of scenery after 3 months of quarantine was exactly what I needed to feel re-inspired — so I packed up and headed to my childhood home in rural Alberta to enjoy the peace and tranquility of  the country while capturing my Summer 2020 Lookbook (with my Mom back behind the lens for many of the images I’m sharing today!). This summer I find myself seeking simplicity and comfort in every area of my life — and that’s definitely reflected in my wardrobe. Purchasing timeless, easy to wear pieces in multiple colourways has been a common theme this summer — and I’ve expanded my summer wardrobe with some fantastic, affordable basics I know I’ll enjoy for years to come. While I’ll always enjoy incorporating trends into my wardrobe in a way that’s authentic to my personal style, this year, I find myself increasingly drawn to classic pieces. These days, fashion moves fast — and I find myself moving in exactly the opposite direction as I mindfully curate my wardrobe. I’ve been living in breezy, effortless silhouettes made from linen, cotton and natural, lightweight fabrics — my summer style has never been more casual (or comfortable) and I’m fully embracing it! Adventure to the tranquil Alberta prairies with me today as I fuse my love of free spirited fashion and stunning natural landscapes in my Summer 2020 Lookbook — featuring 12 effortless, accessible, classic seasonal looks, plus tips on how to transition key pieces into autumn. I’m also sharing the first glimpse of our Country Garden — so pour yourself a glass of rosé and join me for a relaxing prairie roadtrip!
