Friends and fashionistas, I’m thrilled to share my first FASHION post of 2021 with you (it’s about time, isn’t it?!) dedicated to H&M‘s ultra dreamy A Meadow of Wildflowers Collection! Although my personal style and shopping habits have changed significantly as a result of the pandemic, I eagerly comprised my wishlist as soon as I saw previews of this collection pop up online last month. H&M‘s Wildflower Collection is a Spring 2021 release hailing from their Conscious range — featuring elegant, timeless silhouettes made from 100% organic cotton and linen, inspired by their print designers favourite wildflowers recreated in watercolour. Of all the limited edition collections H&M has released (many of which I’ve worn, loved and featured here at JustineCelina over the years!) this the collection of dreams for my free-spirited, art college educated, flower loving soul!
As soon as the (partial) collection arrived online in Canada, I ordered every piece on my wishlist available in my sizes. Shortly after their arrival, we spent an evening venturing around the stunning natural landscapes near my childhood home in rural Alberta capturing these images — and it felt incredible to get excited about shooting fashion content outdoors after a long winter! As of publication, many of these pieces are now sold out online — and some pieces on my wishlist also aren’t yet available online, but are available in store, so I suggest keeping an eye out for online restocks or using the in-store locator to source specific pieces near you. That said, I wanted to publish my dedicated H&M Wildflower Collection Review for you as soon as possible, so you can use it to inform your collection purchases! Accompany me to the sun drenched, wildflower laden fields of the Alberta prairies for my bohemian spin on the collection, styled up with spring and summer accessory staples. As always, this post is complete with shoppable links for both Canada and the US!
H&M WILDFLOWER COLLECTION REVIEW
Lovers of dreamy little dresses, cotton, linen and natural, botanical prints — H&M’s Wildflower Collection does not disappoint!
Absolutely everything about this collection looks and feels much more luxurious than it’s modest price point suggests. Each piece is fully lined to ensure modesty and perfect coverage — and both the lining and garment exterior is 100% organic cotton, or a 100% organic cotton / linen blend. On the day we shot these images it was exceptionally windy (we had to sneak it in between the rain!) — but these dresses are every bit as light, airy and whimsical as they appear! These timeless dresses will remain staples in my Spring/Summer wardrobe for years to come.
I was delighted that my order actually arrived pretty quickly — with just 10 days from order to delivery! I placed my order on April 29th and my order arrived on May 13th, which is significantly faster than H&M’s typical delivery times during the pandemic. Of course, as soon as it arrived I got to work creating this post, styling my pieces up and coordinating a shoot so I could capture them and share this post with you!
I’ve organized this post by garment so you can quickly find what you’re looking for, with information regarding a general Overview, Sizing Information, Styling Ideas and Availability (updated ongoing) for each item (plus alternatives if something you love is sold out!). I’ve also included links to the Canadian and US sites within this post! So, let’s dive in, shall we?
HOW TO BECOME AN H&M PLUS MEMBER
I’m am H&M Plus Member (and have been for the past couple of years as it’s one become one of my favourite retailers!) so I was able to apply a 20% off coupon to this order. I frequently receive coupons and discounts that I’m able to apply to various orders — and it’s free for anyone to join! You too can become an H&M Member and enjoy 10% off your second purchase, as well as all the perks and benefits of being a member. As a frequent shopper I find my points and discounts accumulate quite quickly and I rarely pay full price!
This ultra dreamy, relaxed Crinkled Long Dress is the most expensive piece from H&M‘s A Meadow of Wildflowers Collection — and also the one I was most excited for! As a lover of sunflowers and yellow blooms of all shapes and sizes, I knew this dress had to be mine — and it certainly didn’t disappoint! I adore absolutely everything about this dress — from the casual, 40’s inspired silhouette featuring a square neckline, pearlescent back buttons, voluminous, 3/4-length sleeves, 100% cotton composition and modest, oversized midi styling.
As I often do when I shop online, I ordered both an S and XS so I could try both to see what worked best for me (I’m 5’8″ and wear both at H&M, although typically an XS more frequently). I found this particular dress extremely oversized in both the XS and S, but ended up keeping the XS. That said, this piece is still extremely oversized on me — but in a flattering way. It’s one of those dresses that’s a breeze to throw on for an instant outfit!
I kept the styling simple and monochromatic to let the dress shine — opting for complimentary cognac and natural wooden tones in my accessories. I selected some of my longtime favourite Spring/Summer accessories for this look (which should look very familiar if you frequent my STYLE archives!), including these a cognac leather sandal with a sculptural wooden heel (although you can’t see much of them in these images!) and my trusty Balinese round rattan bag.
If I want more shape, I love to belt this dress (with a similar hued leather or woven belt) with an oversized linen shirt layered overtop for extra warmth. This dress would be a wonderful candidate for late summer / early autumn styling layered up with a longline cardigan, knee-high boots and a flat brimmed hat to top things off!
The Crinkled Long Dress is available in limited sizing online and is not available in Canadian stores.
The Smock-detail Dress is another piece I was particularly excited for! This feminine, calf-length dress features another one of my favourite prints from the collection — it was an instant add to cart situation. I find the square neckline, smocked bodice, dramatic balloon sleeves and flared skirt ultra flattering — plus the 100% cotton composition make this statement piece comfortable and breathable. This print is the most colourful of the collection and I adore the playful, whimsical scaling. It’s also featured in a number of other pieces, if you love it as much as I do and are looking for alternate options!
I’m wearing a S (XS was already sold out when I placed my order!), which fits perfectly.
Once again, I opted for simple, monochromatic styling to keep the focus on the dress. Adhering to a light and airy palette of crisp whites and natural, creamy textures, I selected a strappy, square-toed pair of white sandals (it felt amazing to take my neglected heels for a spin!), a string basket bag (both are old Zara) and a pair of round ombre sunnies that I love to pull out each summer to finish the look.
The Smock-detail Dress is currently out of stock online and is not available in Canadian stores.
This off-the-shoulder, creamy yellow, lavender-printed dress was actually a piece I wasn’t sure about, but I’m so happy I added it to my cart — it’s become my most-worn piece from the collection so far! The sweet, lavender-themed print drew me in instantly and I was intrigued by the off-the-shoulder, midi-length, 100% cotton silhouette with a unique exposed lower back cutout. It’s extremely flattering on! The Off-the-shoulder Dress is such an easy, comfortable and effortless piece — I love to wear it casually around the apartment and it also styles up beautifully for just about any Spring/Summer setting. In fact, I wore this dress when I received my first vaccine dose!
That said, if you love this print but not this style, consider the Linen-blend Dress — it features this exact print in different silhouettes (and cotton / linen blended fabric).
I went super sweet, and (yes, you guessed it!) monochromatic with my cottagecore themed styling of this dress. Keeping my accessories natural and neutral, I selected a woven fedora (old Nordstrom), ASOS cream wedge espadrilles and a darling basket bag (old Zara) to polish this outfit.
Again, I ordered both an S and XS so I could try both to see what worked best for me (I’m 5’8″ and wear both at H&M, although typically an XS more frequently). I found both sizes in fit quite well, but opted for the S as it was more comfortable — offering a bit more room in the waistband and length in the torso.
The Off-the-shoulder Dress is currently in stock online and available in Canadian stores.
Longtime readers will know how much I adore my scarves — I’ve amassed quite the collection over the years! Believe it or not, I didn’t have absolutely anything in my collection with a pastel floral print, so I snapped up this ethereal Patterned Satin Scarf (which is actually 100% polyester, 75% of which is recycled). This will be such a versatile piece in my wardrobe for years to come!
If you’re looking for something sheer, consider the Patterned Scarf, which has an identical print in an airy 100% polyester composition.
Here I’ve worn it as a head scarf, tied below the nape of my neck, for a luxurious, 60’s inspired vibe — complete with a flowy cotton dress, breezy button down shirt, oversized circular shades and one of my favourite natural material bags. I also love to wear silky scarves as neck ties, as well as tied around the handles of my bags!
The Patterned Satin Scarf is currently in stock online and available in Canadian stores.
STILL ON MY WISHLIST
There are quite a few pieces currently listed as Coming Soon that I’ve had my eye on for over a month since I placed my initial order. After stalking H&M’s site each morning (not so) patiently awaiting their arrival, I plan to pop into a Calgary store this weekend to hunt them down in person. Be sure to check back for additional photos and styling ideas as I’m able to purchase these pieces and update this post — but for now, here’s a look at what’s still on my wishlist!
