MID CENTURY MEETS BOHO HOLIDAY DECOR

Happy holidays, friends! Can you believe we’ve nearly made it to the end of another year? What a year it’s been. Despite everything that’s happened and how different this season looks, it always brings me great joy to prepare our home for the holidays — and tonight I’m thrilled to share our Mid Century Meets Boho Holiday Decor! Even though it will just be the two of us this Christmas, I knew I wanted to keep things fun, fresh and festive this holiday season. This is our third year decorating our recently refreshed inner city Calgary apartment for the holidays — although our holiday decor went up much later than I originally intended, we love the way it came together. In fact, I think this year’s holiday decor may just be my favourite yet! As always, I mixed high, low, old and new to infuse the apartment with Christmas spirit — and today I’m detailing exactly how I pulled it all together!

Whether you’ve been with me here at JustineCelina for years or have just recently joined (welcome!), you’ll know I’m all about finding creative ways to make my favourite pieces feel fresh again — be it in my home or in your wardrobe. That said, given the state of the world (and in light of the current restrictions here in Alberta), I knew didn’t want to rely on having to shop in person for our holiday tree this year. So, instead of purchasing fresh tree as we’ve done in years past, I decided to have some fun with it and ordered a flocked artificial tree — and I adore the effect! Other than our tree and a few small decor pieces, everything else we’ve owned for years. As we live in an apartment with limited storage, it’s simply not practical for us to purchase entirely new decor each season (but to be honest, I don’t think that’s practical for anyone!). If you’re in search of some creative holiday DIYs and boho Christmas decorating ideas, you’ve come to the right place — join me for a glass of bubbly as I share how I created a warm, modern and inviting holiday atmosphere in our home this season!

FALL 2020 LOOKBOOK

Fall fashion lovers, I’m thrilled to welcome you back for another seasonally inspired LOOKBOOK! Since publishing my Early Autumn 2020 Lookbook, there have been a few notable developments here in Calgary in regards to new public health measures to combat the second wave of COVID-19 we’re currently experiencing. I’ve been fairly quiet here at JustineCelina as we navigated what Alberta’s new restrictions look like for us and our businesses ahead of the holiday season. In light of these recent announcements, we decided against shooting the final three winter looks I had planned for this LOOKBOOK outdoors. As social gatherings of any kind are prohibited both in our homes as well as outdoors, it simply doesn’t feel like the right time to do so. As I’ve mentioned previously, these restrictions are something I take very seriously. These LOOKBOOKS showcase what I’m authentically wearing each season — and getting dressed up with quite literally no where to go simply didn’t resonate with me. Since we’re all staying in these days, I knew it wouldn’t resonate with you either!

That said, I didn’t want that to stop me from from serving up one final dose of late fall fashion here at JustineCelina this season while we’re all cozied up at home! Alas, the fall looks we captured earlier this autumn were collecting dust on my hard drive and I wanted to bring them to life, even if this LOOKBOOK doesn’t follow my typical 6 outfit format. But hey — 2020 is anything but typical, right?! My Fall 2020 Lookbook features 3 creative, free spirited, trend focused fall 2020 outfits built on foundational, quality wardrobe staples. As always, you can expect a melange of high, low, old, new and vintage — as well as shoppable links at every price point. If you’re looking for a sartorial escape during lockdown, join me this evening for  inventive layering tips to get the most of your wardrobe as we transition into winter, my process for pulling together elegant cool weather looks and a chat about how my personal style (and shopping habits) have changed as a result of the pandemic. Pour yourself a juicy glass of pinot noir and settle in for a fleeting dose of late autumn fashion on the Alberta prairies — complete with both rural and urban style inspiration and additional face mask recommendations!

Friends and fashionistas, I’m thrilled to bring some structure and familiarity back to my STYLE content today with this 6 outfit, Early Autumn 2020 Lookbook — my first since April! While 2020 has thrown all semblance of order and routine for a loop, one thing that remains is my love of fall fashion. Each autumn I go into content creation overdrive creating and capturing things that inspire me! And despite life looking quite a bit different than it did this time last year, I was determined to not let COVID put a damper on my personal style. Regardless of the pandemic, dressing up and dressing well allows me to present the best, most confident and truest version of myself to the world — and I simply refused to let my stilettos collect dust for another season! Those of you who’ve been with me for awhile here at JustineCelina will know I theme my content seasonally, as I’m always looking to nature for inspiration — taking cues from the changing landscape to inform both my creative work and my personal style. It felt incredible  to reignite my passion for pulling together looks, capturing them beautiful settings and curating them into one my signature, seasonal LOOKBOOKS

This year we’ve been fortunate to enjoy the warmest fall I can remember — and we shot more seasonal style content than ever before against the backdrop of our beautiful Alberta landscape. We also captured images in both country and city locations (complete with an introduction to my top face mask recommendations and accompanying Community Guidelines), so my Early Autumn 2020 Lookbook features sartorial inspiration for variety of settings! That said, no matter the setting, my wardrobe has become more casual, comfortable and practical than ever this year — and it’s a very welcome shift. The majority of the pieces I’ve added to my wardrobe in 2020 are ultra versatile to suit a variety of occasions — whether I’m working from home, enjoying a quiet evening in or heading out for a (very rare) occasional celebration. Today I’m elated to share my go-to styling tips for extending your summer wardrobe into autumn, innovative layering techniques, favourite retailers, cozy seasonal staple pieces and wearable trends incorporated into 6 relaxed, bohemian inspired looks suitable for a variety of climates. SUMMER 2020 LOOKBOOK + STYLE CONTENT UPDATE

Friends and fashionistas, I’m absolutely elated to bring you the first LOOKBOOK I’ve published since April — my Summer 2020 Lookbook! It would be an incredible understatement to say that 2020 hasn’t shaped up the way any of us could have predicted and that our lifestyles have changed dramatically as a result of COVID-19. While FASHION is one of my true loves and lifelong passions, I made the decision to pause my regularly scheduled seasonal LOOKBOOKS from May through August to embrace a slower pace of life, navigate through some incredibly difficult situations and make a conscious effort to be grateful for what I have, while being mindful of my spending. Given the state of the world and the economy, it simply didn’t feel right to promote purchasing new clothing during the height of a pandemic. And to be completely transparent, I was also feeling quite uninspired fashion wise as all of the events, meetings and occasions that would typically inspire my style content had halted — as I’m sure many of you can relate! Although I was able to experiment with self portraiture and push the boundaries of my home studio set up to produce some beautiful content during quarantine, it’s safe to say I reached the limit of how of many chic loungewear outfit ideas or breezy spring dresses I could shoot in my Living Room with my self timer and tripod!

A change of scenery after 3 months of quarantine was exactly what I needed to feel re-inspired — so I packed up and headed to my childhood home in rural Alberta to enjoy the peace and tranquility of  the country while capturing my Summer 2020 Lookbook (with my Mom back behind the lens for many of the images I’m sharing today!). This summer I find myself seeking simplicity and comfort in every area of my life — and that’s definitely reflected in my wardrobe. Purchasing timeless, easy to wear pieces in multiple colourways has been a common theme this summer — and I’ve expanded my summer wardrobe with some fantastic, affordable basics I know I’ll enjoy for years to come. While I’ll always enjoy incorporating trends into my wardrobe in a way that’s authentic to my personal style, this year, I find myself increasingly drawn to classic pieces. These days, fashion moves fast — and I find myself moving in exactly the opposite direction as I mindfully curate my wardrobe. I’ve been living in breezy, effortless silhouettes made from linen, cotton and natural, lightweight fabrics — my summer style has never been more casual (or comfortable) and I’m fully embracing it! Adventure to the tranquil Alberta prairies with me today as I fuse my love of free spirited fashion and stunning natural landscapes in my Summer 2020 Lookbook — featuring 12 effortless, accessible, classic seasonal looks, plus tips on how to transition key pieces into autumn. I’m also sharing the first glimpse of our Country Garden — so pour yourself a glass of rosé and join me for a relaxing prairie roadtrip!

Beauty lovers, I’m absolutely elated to partner with Physicians Formula today to bring you a fresh instalment in MY TOP 5 series — My Top 5 Physicians Formula Products! Longtime readers will know I’ve featured and worn Physicians Formula products here at JustineCelina for the duration of my blogging career — but my love for the brand actually extends all the way back to my teenage years. You see, I’ve always had very sensitive skin and eyes — and Physicians Formula was one of the first makeup brands I discovered at the drugstore that actually worked for me when I started wearing makeup. Over the years, as my love of BEAUTY (and my makeup collection!) have grown dramatically, Physicians Formula has remained one of my favourite drugstore brands. Having the opportunity to work with them over the past few months (come join me on Instagram to see the other campaigns we’ve created together!) is such a full circle moment and a truly dream come true. I couldn’t be more excited to extend our partnership to the blog today as I share My Top 5 Physicians Formula Products across eye, lip and complexion categories — along with a general overview of the brand and a massive beauty giveaway (which has now closed), to provide you with the opportunity to try my favourite products, too!

Here at JustineCelina, I’m passionate about living (and promoting) at healthy lifestyle that’s attainable. A clean, plant-based diet free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar helps me manage numerous intolerances and sensitivities while also helping me look and feel my best — and whenever possible, I look for these qualities in my cosmetics as well. That said, I’m not willing to sacrifice performance at the cost of a healthy ingredients list — and Physicians Formula is my go-to brand for high-performing, natural, hypoallergenic beauty products at an accessible price point. Although it was difficult to narrow it down to just 5 for today’s post (and I may have cheated a bit!), these products remain at the core of my beauty routine year after year, as trends come and go. With all the time I’ve spent at home lately, I’m simply not drawn to anything that isn’t comfortable or effortless these days — be in it my wardrobe, my beauty routine or my creative work. Over the past 20+ years I’ve relied on Physicians Formula for comfortable, clean, beautifully formulated products that make me feel like the best, most confident version of myself — and I can’t wait to share My Top 5 Physicians Formula Products with you!

WINTER / SPRING 2020 LOOKBOOK + CONTENT UPDATE

Hey, friends. How’s everyone doing? Wow — what an intense couple of months its been! If you keep up with me on Instagram (and if you don’t, I’d love for you to join me!), you may have some insight into how quickly life has changed here in Calgary as a result of COVID-19. It’s crazy to think that we started shooting my Winter / Spring 2020 Lookbook back in February when the world was a completely different place — I was still planning outfits for all the different personal and professional situations I would typically find myself in as we transition from winter to spring. Things evolved rapidly, so I polled you on Instagram Stories to see if you’d still like to see this LOOKBOOK — and 100% of you responded yes! That said, as we heed the advice of local authorities to stay in whenever possible, I feel it’s important to share we shot these images nearly 2 months ago — and I’ve been working from home ever since to get this post ready.

Today, I’m thrilled to finally share my Winter / Spring 2020 Lookbook with you! If you’re in search of a sartorial escape from reality and a look at a handful of my favourite winter-to-spring transitional trends mashed up with wardrobe staples and practical outfit formulas, you’ve come to the right place. As always, you can expect a melange of high, low, old, new and vintage here today — as well as shoppable links at every price point for those in need of a little retail therapy. This LOOKBOOK features my favourite early spring outfit formulas, ideal for temperatures ranging from about 10 degrees on either side of freezing (believe it or not, it was still snowing here last week!). Even though we’ll be spending the majority of our time indoors for the foreseeable future, I still enjoy seasonal trends mixed with easy basics — and showing you how to re-style them season after season (and year after year!). Pour yourself a delicious glass of rosé and settle in with me this weekend as I highlight my favourite winter-to-spring transitional trends, patterns, prints and colours — plus, how I incorporate them into my work-from-home wardrobe!

COLOUR CRUSH | CLASSIC BLUE

Colour lovers, today I’m thrilled to bring you a fresh post in my COLOUR CRUSH series dedicated to the Pantone 2020 Colour of the Year, Classic Blue! Selected by Pantone in late 2019 for its ability to ‘instil calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era’, it seems especially fitting given the current state of the world. I first introduced you to Classic Blue with January’s Digital Blooms (be sure to hop over to download a free, floral, Pantone 2020 inspired tech wallpaper!) and have been working with this comforting, of-the-moment hue across categories since. That said, although blue has always had a small place in my wardrobe (albeit mostly in denim and more formal attire), as someone with warm colouring, it isn’t a hue I’m typically drawn to. Longtime readers will know that each year I allow Pantone’s selections to inspire and challenge me here at JustineCelina — incorporating the Colour of the Year into my life and content in a way that’s congruent to my personal style. Fast forward to March and I’m absolutely crazy about Classic Blue — and today I’m sharing the inspiration with you!

In the midst of another Winter Storm Warning here in Calgary (and after a particularly heavy week in regards to recent news), I thought this weekend was the perfect time to put the finishing touches on a post I’ve been working on since February. As the way we live continues to change over the coming months, I want JustineCelina to remain a source of inspiration and joy for anyone who needs it — including myself! This instalment of my COLOUR CRUSH series is dedicated to Classic Blue transitional styling, starring one of my favourite casual winter-to-spring outfit formulas, perfect for chilly weather. As always, I’m wearing a melange of high, low, old and new in todays look — a mash up of of transitional wardrobe staples intermixed with trend-forward accessories to create an easy-going late winter outfit that’s quintessentially 2020. If you’re curious about Pantone’s 2020 Colour of the Year how to integrate Classic Blue into your wardrobe as we transition into spring, fix yourself a mug of your favourite tea and settle in for an uplifting Sunday read!
