SPRING / SUMMER 2019 LOOKBOOK

Friends and fashionistas, I’m elated to finally share my SPRING / SUMMER 2019 LOOKBOOK with you! Despite a few delays due to our crazy weather (believe it or not, it snowed in Calgary just a few weeks ago!) we finally wrapped up shooting earlier this month and I’ve since been hard at work creating this seasonally inspired, sartorial guide for the modern woman. My 12 outfit LOOKBOOK features everything I’ve been wearing and loving in both personal and professional settings over the last couple of months and as we transition into summer! As always, it’s complete with a healthy dose of seasonal trends and practical tips on how to wear them, mashed up with classic wardrobe staples and shoppable links at every pricepoint — including the inside scoop on the best sales of the season! It’s been a major labour of love and I hope it’s been worth the wait!

Now that summer is officially upon us (although there’s no end in sight to the rain here in Calgary!), many of us Canadian girls are finally packing away our boots and knits and pulling out our warm weather pieces from years past. I always like to take this time to clean out my closet, identify holes in my seasonal wardrobe, integrate a few updated basics and experiment with new trends. As always, my SPRING / SUMMER 2019 LOOKBOOK runs the gamut of high, low, old, new and vintage — there’s truly something for everyone! It’s bursting with bold colour, print and my favourite warm weather fabrics and textures, plus updated wardrobe staples that offer ultimate styling versatility.  Step into my closet this weekend and get ready for a serious dose of seasonal FASHION and I walk you through the cornerstones of my SS19 wardrobe — I hope it inspires your most stylish summer yet!

OUT OF OFFICE

Happy May long weekend, Canadian friends! I wanted to check in quickly to let you know we’re headed to the Kootenays for a week of off-the-grid relaxation. After a very busy past 2 months, Adam and I both had the opportunity to take a full week off at the same time — and we jumped on it! We booked the cutest lakeside cabin where I’ll be enjoying my first completely unplugged, work-free vacation since starting JustineCelina over 4 years ago. To say it’s long overdue is a major understatement!

Although I originally had a number of posts planned for this upcoming week, for once I actually haven’t pre-scheduled content. Instead, I’m taking the opportunity to hit pause, recharge and reconnect — something I hope you’re all able to do this weekend as well, because it’s so important. I’ll be back in action the week of May 27th with tons of fresh content, a refreshed mindset and a restocked wine rack! Thanks for taking the time to stop by if you’re visiting during my break — fortunately, my existing content never takes time off and there are nearly 400 posts here at JustineCelina spanning categories for you to enjoy. Have a wonderful long weekend, beautiful people!

TRANSITIONAL STYLE STAPLES | WINTER TO SPRING 2019

The perpetual Extreme Cold Warning finally appears to have lifted here in Calgary — and with temperatures set to rise above O°C this weekend, visions of spring are dancing through my head! Although I typically enjoy dressing for whatever weather mother nature throws our way, after experiencing the 3rd coldest February on record, I’m must admit I’m really looking forward to spring. But because of our cooler, rather temperamental climate, realistically it will be a couple of months before bare legs and open-toed shoes are on the menu. So, what’s a girl to wear while she’s longing for spring but still experiencing wintery weather?!

While I absolutely love to experiment with integrating seasonal trends into my personal style, I also believe a wardrobe built on a foundation of quality basics is essential in order to do so. This fashion philosophy has inspired me to start a brand new series called STYLE STAPLES here at JustineCelina where I’ll be sharing my most worn, most loved, workhorse wardrobe staples, season after season — the ones I would struggle to put outfits together without! Today we’re kicking things off with my favourite winter to spring transitional pieces for 2019 to help you navigate unpredictable weather in practical, stylish garments and accessories you can wear for years to come! This outfit formula works in both personal and professional settings with a few tweaks, flatters a wide range of body types and can be adapted to suit both warmer and cooler climates. If you’re up for a crash course on chic, pre-spring transitional FASHION, bust out the rosé, curl up in your favourite reading nook and let’s dive in!

AUTUMN 2018 LOOKBOOK

Fellow fashionistas, this one’s for you! My Autumn 2018 Lookbook has been months in the making and a concept I’ve wanted to produce for about a year here at JustineCelina — but I could simply never find the time with my previous publishing schedule. While I did take a break from posting during my Intermission due to computer issues, thankfully my camera wasn’t affected — and neither was my love of autumnal fashion. In fact, I’ve mentioned many times here over the years that fall is my absolute favourite time of year to get dressed (we started shooting autumn style content in August!). Well, this year I’ve compiled a massive 12 outfit LOOKBOOK featuring everything I’ve been wearing over the past couple of months in both personal and professional settings, sprinkled with an overview of seasonal trends, styling tips and of course, tons of shoppable links!

While this post is getting to you about a month later than I originally intended due the loss of my previous laptop and 4 months of edited, beautifully catalogued style content (that one still stings!), I really wanted to take the time to execute it true to my original vision. Moving forward (dependent on your feedback, of course!), I’d like to publish a Lookbook at the onset of each new season featuring multi-outfit style inspiration — and then break each look out into a subsequent, more detailed oriented post as well as incorporate them into some of my pre-existing series — TREND GUIDES, HOW TO STYLE and PATTERN PLAY (I’m also kicking off a new WORK WEAR series in 2019 — more on that in this post!). That way, you get an overview of everything I’m wearing and loving for the new season at a glance in the Lookbook and can come back for more inspiration or information if you’d like to learn more about one of the looks, prints or pieces. While this post took a considerable of research, organization and coordination to create, I’m extremely pleased with how my first seasonal Lookbook came together — and I hope you enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed creating it! Due to the timing of publication, many of the items featured in the post are currently on sale for Black Friday / Cyber Monday, which I’ve also made note of (because you know I love a great deal!). Alright, enough housekeeping — let’s get to the FASHION, shall we?!

TRANSITIONAL SHOE GUIDE | SUMMER TO AUTUMN 2018

Shoe lovers, I’m elated to bring you the first 2018 installment of my SHOE GUIDE series! It’s been a little while since my last blog post — I took a step back to brainstorm, get re-inspired and shoot tons of new style content (you may have seen it trickling onto Instagram over the past few weeks!). Moving forward, I’ll be bringing multiple outfits to my FASHION posts where possible to give you lots of styling options, variety and inspiration for both personal and professional settings! Today I’m kicking off this comprehensive era of style content with a transitional SHOE GUIDE showcasing 20 of my favourite pairs to carry you from the height of summer to autumn in style!

While many of us are already looking forward to fall, this transitional time of year is my absolutely favourite. I love to shop end-of-season sales to stock up on summery styles I know I’ll be able to wear next summer (and beyond), as well as transition into fall. This SHOE GUIDE features something for every occasion, lifestyle and budget — whether you’re just beginning to build your warm weather shoe wardrobe, a comfort enthusiast who loves flats and low heels, a trend-driven fashionista looking for a crash course on transitional footwear, a corporate gal who wants to freshen up her work wear with some new kicks, or simply someone who loves shoes just as much as I do, you’ve come to the right place! So ladies, pour yourself a delicious glass of rosé and let’s chat about fabulous summer-to-autumn footwear as we take our first look at the Pantone Fall / Winter 2018 Colour Trend Report! As always, this post is sprinkled with of shoppable links for each style featured from a variety of retailers at every price point, from bargain to designer!

COLOUR CRUSH | RED

Do you have a power colour? I’m beginning to think mine is red. Oddly enough, it’s not a hue I’ve worn often over the past 4ish years since rocking my natural hair colour. Back in my (much) younger, platinum blonde days (yes, really — in fact, I’ve had almost every single hair colour except jet black!) red was one of my favourite colours to wear! This year, I’ve been increasingly drawn to red and have incorporated more of this statement shade into my personal style. Fast forward to SS18 and red is everywhere — a classic colour that demands attention, instills confidence and couldn’t be more suited to our scorching summer climate. I’ve always believed that red lips give you superpowers, so just imagine what wearing red-to-toe (ie: wearing red, head to toe) can do for you!

Today’s post is a fresh installment in my COLOUR CRUSH series and my take on a summery, red-to-toe look — along with a crash course on colour theory to help you find your perfect shade of red and master on-trend, monochromatic dressing. The best part? Once you’ve learned the basics, you can apply these tips to any colour or shade if red isn’t your thing! No matter what colour you chose, monochromatic looks are always slimming and sophisticated — and although this bold look was a bit outside of my comfort zone, I’m so glad I went for it! Get ready for a healthy dose of red-hot style inspiration, mashed up with an introduction to a handful of seasonal trends and an update on what to expect FASHION wise here at JustineCelina this summer (hint: get ready for tons of fresh content and the emergence of a brand new series!).

HOW TO STYLE | TRANSITIONAL LAYERS

It’s mid April… and I’m editing this post during yet another Snowfall Warning here in Calgary! I don’t meant to give you a mini weather update every time I publish new style content — but the weather greatly impacts what I wear, and therefore share with you FASHION wise here at JustineCelina. And to be completely honest, this has been the longest winter I can remember… like, ever! The silver lining is that our chilly, temperamental ‘Canadian spring’ has forced me to get really creative when it comes to dressing myself for these transitional months. We shot these photos on a beautiful, 11°C spring day last week — followed by a winter storm and freezing temperatures that evening. This outfit is one I’ve worn several iterations of over the past couple of months — a mashup of winter coziness with an infusion of spring trends!

So, what’s a girl supposed to wear when she experiences each of the four seasons in one day? This versatile, layered look with an air of cool sophistication is my answer! In this edition of my HOW TO STYLE series, I’m chatting all about Transitional Layers and how to make them work for you this April in our unpredictable climate. I’m also dipping my toes into a few spring trends you can wear no matter the weather — including longline layers, baker boy hats (yep, still loving them!), dark denim, contrast stitching and statement sleeves, paired up with classic spring staples like trench coats, versatile knits and pointed toe shoes. I’m also mixing prints and using this moody spring weather as one last excuse to rock a vampy lip! Navigate the changing seasons and our crazy Canadian spring in style with a simple outfit formula that can be adapted to both personal and professional settings!
