FALLING BACK | REFRESHING OLD STAPLES FOR A NEW SEASON

Happy first weekend of… fall?! Somehow, we skipped autumn entirely this week and went straight from almost 30°C weather to snow and frigid, negative temperatures. As we’ve established, autumn is my favourite time of year, but this week I was forced to bust out my cold weather pieces — I hadn’t even finished getting my fall wardrobe together, yet wintery conditions were upon us. It was time to get creative (and warm!) and make the most of my existing wardrobe — but the good news is that our drastic weather shift here in Calgary inspired today’s post all about refreshing old favourites for a new season! Absolutely everything I’m wearing today is something I’ve owned for several months or years — and you’ve also seen most of these pieces here at JustineCelina previously.

Although I love to shop just as much as the next girl (and now it’s even become part of the way I earn a living!), I think there’s something to be said for learning how to make the most of your existing wardrobe when the seasons change and looking to new sources of inspiration to inform your sartorial choices. That’s exactly what I did for today’s look — I can’t wait to share how I styled these well loved wardrobe staples through fresh eyes for Autumn 2017 to reflect current seasonal trends! If you’re looking to maximize your existing wardrobe this season, get cozy with me tonight as I pull out my coats, sweater dresses, OTK boots, velvet accessories, fall florals and autumnal lip colours!

SUMMER 2017 TREND GUIDE | KIMONO LOVE

Things I’m happy about today: it’s almost the long weekend, the weather is gorgeous, and I’m wearing a kimono! I’m not ashamed to admit I have 13 kimonos currently hanging in my closet — they’ve been my most worn summer item for as long as I can remember and I love to collect them (I even have a few vintage kimonos!). Naturally, I’m elated to bring you my first SUMMER 2017 TREND GUIDE today highlighting one of my favourite seasonal trends — luxe, loungewear inspired kimonos! Like ponchos, kimonos have always been a staple in my wardrobe, regardless of whether or not they’re particularly on trend that season.

Those of you who know me personally are probably used to seeing me in kimonos, especially during the warmer months. So, I used one of my favourite kimonos as a statement piece in today’s post and paired it up with a handful of summer trends — including bold botanical prints, fringe hem denim, mules, millennial pink, eyelet, tassels, circular cross body bags, hexagon sunglasses and sunset inspired makeup. I’ve also included tons of shoppable links and image carousels for you at every price point in today’s post — because hey, a girl’s gotta have options, am I right?! Fix yourself a refreshing cocktail and let’s chat about what’s on my hit list this season!

SPRINGING FORWARD + SEASONAL WARDROBE STAPLES

I’m back today with the first of many Spring 2017 FASHION posts coming to JustineCelina — and it feels fantastic! Originally, this look was scheduled for last month, but shooting style content with a fully dressed finger was decidedly… less than glamorous. Now that I’ve healed up a bit I couldn’t wait to jump back in front of the camera (please excuse the Band-Aid!) and chat about some of my Seasonal Wardrobe Staples. It’s been a long winter on the Alberta prairies, but I think it’s safe to say spring has finally arrived!

If you’re looking to refresh your spring style with a few key pieces this season, I’ve totally got you covered today as we spring forward. Although this outfit definitely incorporates a few trends (keep your eyes peeled for several upcoming Spring 2017 TREND GUIDES!) it’s also comprised of spring wardrobe building blocks and updated basics. You may remember me mentioning I wanted to rebuild my wardrobe with quality pieces this year — and I’m excited to share some of those foundational staples with you! Today we’re chatting about the Spring 2017 Pantone Fashion Color Report and simple ways to translate seasonal colour trends into your personal style, Mom jeans (sorry… they’re not going anywhere), step hem denim, blush and pastel hues, basic tees, mini bags, a quintessential spring shoe, oversized shades (obviously!) and a beautiful, everyday lip!

PRE FALL TRANSITIONAL STYLE

I, along with almost every other woman on the planet, will tell you that fall is my favourite time of year, especially for fashion. But September specifically is my favourite month — well, for almost everything (except Pumpkin Spice Lattes… I may be the only woman on the planet who’s not a fan of those!). It’s nice enough outside that we don’t have to be totally bundled up, but cooler temperatures call for more autumnal, layered style. It’s the perfect opportunity to maximize wear time on your favourite summer pieces, but also to begin playing with autumn fashion. So, today’s post a fall-inspired outfit with wear now appeal — a summer-meets-autumn mashup that we only get to wear for a brief window of time here in Calgary! I’m also chatting about some of fall 2016’s biggest trends and giving you tips to incorporate them into your personal style, right now.

HOW TO STYLE | JUMPSUITS

It’s that magical time of year in Calgary. Flowers are still in bloom, the weather is mild and the leaves are just starting to yellow. I can’t complain about September’s temperatures so far (we enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio right after we shot this post), but there’s a definite crispness in the air and a few crunchy leaves at my feet. I personally love this time of year, especially for fashion. And while I’m not quite ready to embrace autumn’s knits, boots and scarves, I’ve been pairing my summer favourites with lighter layers and a more autumnal colour palette during this transitional month. Today’s post is another installment in my HOW TO STYLE series — where I’m chatting about how to style jumpsuits and culotte silhouettes. I’m also sharing a few tips on how I like to transition more summery pieces like jumpsuits, maxis and rompers into autumn! Come hang out with me today for a dose of 70’s inspired glam and some casual autumn elegance.

WINTER BOHO + HOW TO SHOP FOR GREAT VINTAGE

Lately, I’ve been reviewing my photo archives and lusting after the more carefree, bohemian styles of summer and autumn. My very first fashion post for JustineCelina is still one of my favourites! So today I’m chatting about wearing bohemian styles in cooler temperatures. You’ll find me pretty much living in maxi dresses in the summer, so I wanted to show you can style them for winter, too. In Calgary the weather is right around the 10° mark and things are starting to thaw out (see that hint of green on the ground?!) — so wardrobe options begin to open up. It’s nice not having to be totally bundled all the time, and start experimenting with layering again! I really love a good faux fur vest, and one of my favourite ways to wear them in the late winter and early fall is to pair them up with maxi dresses. I also give you a simple braided hairstyle idea, and my tips on how to shop for great vintage!

COMFORT ZONE

Sometimes you just want to be really comfortable, am I right?! While I absolutely love dressing up, there are many occasions when I still want to look put together, but be comfortable and cozy (like a casual Thanksgiving dinner, for example — when I wore this exact outfit!). Today I’m chatting about my favourite comfortable, elevated basics for autumn. I love to add lots of texture and interest to my outfits with light layers and versatile accessories — my favourite pieces are made from soft, comfortable fabric, and their unique details make them more interesting than your basic leggings and oversized tee. Curl up with a big latte and let’s chat about laid-back fall style!
