HOW TO STYLE | MIDI DRESSES FOR WINTER

The time of year has come when winter really seems to drag on. Despite actually having pretty nice weather until late January, the past few weeks the have left a lot to be desired (I was snowed in for 3 days last week!). Mid February is typically when I start to crave the more free flowing, bohemian silhouettes and styles I love to wear during warmer weather — and this year, I was determined to wear those dresses and get really creative with my layering, despite the sub zero temps and snow storms! So today, I’m sharing a new post in my HOW TO STYLE series — and this time, I’m chatting about fresh ways to style your midi dresses for winter, incorporating a mashup of winter and spring trends with wardrobe staples in a boho chic look you can wear right now!

WINTER 2018 TREND GUIDE | RED HOT

Fellow fashionistas, welcome back for the first TREND GUIDE of 2018! If the new year has you itching to upgrade your personal style or educate yourself about what’s hot this winter, you’ve come to the right place! Today I’m styling a handful of my favourite winter-to-spring trends in a colourful, artistic look — including red, chenille, berets, circular details, distressed hems and sock boots (I marched right into 2018 wearing my favourite pair!). WHAT TO WEAR TO | CASUAL HOLIDAY PARTIES

It’s mid December and the holiday party season is in full swing, so I thought it was the perfect time to share a new post in my WHAT TO WEAR TO series — this time, to Casual Holiday Parties! I’m all about comfortable, laid back holiday looks remixing pieces from my existing wardrobe. This season, I’ve picked up a couple of new, trendier accessories to refresh my old favourites — and I’m so excited to share my finds with you! I actually wore this exact outfit to a restaurant opening on Steven Avenue (where we came back to shoot this post) last month and had tons of compliments and questions about it — a few women mentioned wanting to wear something similar to their holiday parties this year! And so this post idea was born. The best part is I put this look together with pieces I already owned — although my boots and hat are newer purchases from earlier this season!

WINTER STYLE STAPLES

Let me preface this post by saying that I do not like the cold. I tend to run cold in the first place, no matter the season (I seriously sleep big, cozy sweaters and multiple pairs of socks!). But what I do love about winter is the fashion — the opportunity to dress well, bundle up and experiment with layering different textures, fabrics and proportions. And although it still gets dark around 4pm (oh Calgary, aren’t you charming in January?!), I also love the warm, golden afternoon light juxtaposed against the frosty, white backdrop of my city! It almost makes up for having to shoot winter style content in -25 °C weather (ha!).

While I’m all for keeping up with the trends, today’s post is dedicated to my trusted Winter Style Staples — items I purchase each year in different colours or interpretations, as well as the investment pieces I look forward to pulling out when it gets chilly. TRANSITIONING THE TRENDS | AUTUMN TO WINTER

With the weather in Calgary being all sorts of unpredictable this year, I had originally planned to share this look with you earlier this autumn as the last installment in my Autumn Trend Guides. The intense cold snap we experienced a couple of weeks ago made shooting new style content outside almost impossible — but thankfully we experienced a few above 0℃ days earlier this week, so I jumped at the chance to get out there and snap a few photos. COZY IN CAMEL | MY FAVOURITE TRANSITIONAL PIECES

I always find that February is a difficult month, fashion-wise! It’s not the dead of winter anymore, but it’s also definitely not spring. Here in Calgary the weather has been pretty mild, but there’s still snow on the ground (and let’s be real — it could still snow anytime!). At this time of year I get sick of wearing pants and crave the more feminine silhouettes of spring — dresses and skirts! I find myself reaching for a lot of neutral tones, but punching my look up with bold accessories and statement lips (especially since I’ve been so obsessed with pink, but am picky about wearing it!). I’ve mentioned before that the core of my wardrobe consists of pieces that I can wear for both work and play — this outfit is an example of something I’d wear if I was hanging out with friends, or headed to a business meeting. Today I’m sharing my favourite transitional pieces from winter-to-spring in Alberta!
