TRANSITIONAL SUMMER TO FALL 2019 LOOKBOOK

With Autumn Equinox behind us and my favourite month of the year coming to a close, I’m back today with a bonus, 6 outfit, Transitional Summer to Fall 2019 Lookbook! If you’ve been following along with my style content this year, you’ll know I committed to producing one, 12 outfit seasonal LOOKBOOK here at JustineCelina in 2019. That said, since fall (and this gorgeous month when summer turns to fall!) is the season I feel most inspired FASHION wise, I created this mini transitional lookbook to celebrate the sartorial nuances I adore when blending the best of both seasons!

It’s the magical time of year when we can wear boots with bare legs, espadrilles with chunky knits, felt hats with chiffon, embroidery with corduroy and velvet with florals — and I’m fully embracing it! If you’re ready for a healthy dose of fall fashion and seasonal colour trends but not quite ready to retire your favourite summer pieces, you’ve come to the right place! PATTERN PLAY | POLKA DOTS

I’m so thrilled to bring you fresh installment in my PATTERN PLAY series as we transition into autumn, featuring a print I didn’t think you’d ever see me wear here at JustineCelina — Polka Dots! If you’re into FASHION you’re probably used to seeing spots in various garments, and at a wide variety of retailers, over the past couple of years. In stark contrast to the last post in this series dedicated to chain print (which I’ve worn and loved for the better part of a decade!), Polka Dots are a very new addition to my wardrobe — but one I’m happy to welcome into my closet! Isn’t it funny how your tastes change and you find yourself wearing things you initially didn’t think were for you? Today I’m embracing my style evolution with PATTERN PLAY | Polka Dots — a comprehensive guide on how to make one of 2019 / 2020’s key prints work for you in any season!

Although I consider Polka Dot to be a classic print, it took me awhile to find a piece that didn’t feel too was too sweet or traditional for me. I felt that polka dotted pieces in more basic colours (like black and white) just didn’t suit my personal style, because they felt too rigid and formal. But as I’ve mentioned many times in this series, I’m a firm believer that if you’re intrigued by a print, there’s a way to make it work for you — incorporating it into your personal style in a way that compliments your lifestyle, preferences, figure and budget. So when I spotted this darling Pantone Sugar Almond (I’m already drawing inspiration from the AW19/20 Fashion Colour Trend Report!) coloured wrap dress, I instantly fell for the unique colour and larger scale of the print. MIDSUMMER SPACE REFRESH UPDATE

Interior design loving friends, welcome back for a long overdue SPACE REFRESH update! If you read my 2018 Review + 2019 Goals post, you’ll know that I had planned to have the next rooms in the series completed by now — but due to some unforeseen delays and unexpected (but necessary!) repairs, things have been pushed back. I realized last week that I’ve been pretty good about updating you about what’s going on on my socials, but the majority of you don’t follow me there, so I wanted to publish an all-encompassing Midsummer Space Refresh Update here at JustineCelina to bring you up to speed!

Overall, even though the next rooms in our have taken longer than expected due to some furniture delays, I’m very happy with the way things are coming together. Originally I was planning to have both the Entrance Way and Main Bathroom complete by the end of Q2, but due to a couple of furniture items being back ordered until the end of September, I’m now planning to have both of those spaces finished this fall. Instead, I’ve used the extra time to source finishing details to really elevate both rooms and make them super functional! It’s actually been a welcome change of pace to take things a bit slower around here, enjoy the summer, and not be working on the apartment every single weekend. ANOTHER TRIP AROUND THE SUN

It’s Leo season and the canola is in full bloom here on the Alberta prairies as I celebrate Another Trip Around The Sun. I’ve always associated these free-spirited country flowers with my birthday — so when we stumbled on this gorgeous crop outside Okotoks after wrapping up shoots for my upcoming Late Summer 2019 Lookbook, we pulled over to capture these images as the sun set. It had been a long, hot day and I was a bit sweaty and disheveled, but we had about 15 minutes to make it happen and decided to go for it! To maximize the beautiful golden light, we ended up shooting into the sun (rather than the pretty backlit effect I typically prefer) and I was stunned at how beautifully these images came out — in fact, I think they’re my favourite of all the canola photos we’ve taken over the years. So, I thought it was fitting to share them with you to celebrate my birthday!

I actually wasn’t planning to write a post for my birthday this year — this post, like these photos, were completely spontaneous. This summer I’ve been trying to live in the moment, make the most of my opportunities and take life as it comes — and I feel that this set of images represent me and the direction I’m heading with JustineCelina perfectly right now! I’m happy, healthy and excited about what’s on the horizon — I feel very much in alignment with who I am and ready to for wherever my next trip around the sun takes me. If you’re in the mood for a reflective and uplifting read I’d love for you to pour yourself a glass of wine and spend part of your evening with me!

Happy Friday, friends! This girl is so ready for a glass of wine and for the long weekend. If you’re in need of some fresh tunes to decorate your long weekend adventures, my July 2019 Soundtrack is ready for streaming! This hour and a half long playlist features a really eclectic mixture of tracks spanning genres from instrumental to rap, with an emphasis on hip-hop (there are so many new artists I’ve been enjoying this summer!). No matter what you’re up to this long weekend, this easy-listening playlist is full of summer anthems you’ll enjoy during August long weekend and beyond!

There are so many standout artists and tracks I discovered in July — including Lil’ Skies Name in the Sand, bülow’s Do You Mean and You and Jennifer (who we saw live at The Calgary Stampede), Dazy Park’s Heartbeat City, Kabo and ford’s Places We Don’t Know, Maree Docia’s At Last, Sunrise, Tennyson’s Wintersleep, Medasin and Kathleen’s Always Afternoon, Mood’s Bucket List, Machine Gun Kelly’s El Diablo and Candy (but I had the whole album on heavy rotation this month!), Hope Tala’s Lovestained, Amorphous and Amindi’s Alright, Jacques Green and Cadence Weapon’s Night Service and San Holo’s Lead Me Back. SPRING / SUMMER 2019 LOOKBOOK

Friends and fashionistas, I’m elated to finally share my SPRING / SUMMER 2019 LOOKBOOK with you! Despite a few delays due to our crazy weather (believe it or not, it snowed in Calgary just a few weeks ago!) we finally wrapped up shooting earlier this month and I’ve since been hard at work creating this seasonally inspired, sartorial guide for the modern woman. My 12 outfit LOOKBOOK features everything I’ve been wearing and loving in both personal and professional settings over the last couple of months and as we transition into summer! As always, it’s complete with a healthy dose of seasonal trends and practical tips on how to wear them, mashed up with classic wardrobe staples and shoppable links at every pricepoint — including the inside scoop on the best sales of the season! It’s been a major labour of love and I hope it’s been worth the wait!

Now that summer is officially upon us (although there’s no end in sight to the rain here in Calgary!), many of us Canadian girls are finally packing away our boots and knits and pulling out our warm weather pieces from years past. I always like to take this time to clean out my closet, identify holes in my seasonal wardrobe, integrate a few updated basics and experiment with new trends. OUT OF OFFICE

Happy May long weekend, Canadian friends! I wanted to check in quickly to let you know we’re headed to the Kootenays for a week of off-the-grid relaxation. After a very busy past 2 months, Adam and I both had the opportunity to take a full week off at the same time — and we jumped on it! We booked the cutest lakeside cabin where I’ll be enjoying my first completely unplugged, work-free vacation since starting JustineCelina over 4 years ago. To say it’s long overdue is a major understatement!

Although I originally had a number of posts planned for this upcoming week, for once I actually haven’t pre-scheduled content. Instead, I’m taking the opportunity to hit pause, recharge and reconnect — something I hope you’re all able to do this weekend as well, because it’s so important. I’ll be back in action the week of May 27th with tons of fresh content, a refreshed mindset and a restocked wine rack!
