TROPICAL ZINGER GREEN SMOOTHIE

Wow, according to my FOOD section I’d really like to be someplace hot right now! It’s the dead of winter here in Calgary — and this time I have my sights set on the tropics, with my Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie! Although there are tons of green smoothie recipes floating around the internet in January, you guys voted for this recipe back in December via Insta Stories when I rediscovered it one day post workout. It’s about 3 and a half years old — in fact, if I scroll way back in my Instagram feed, I can still find the original post. This is long before I started blogging and would simply share my smoothie recipes on my feed with friends and family. Last month we had a pineapple ripening on the counter and a big bag of spinach to use up — I was sweaty, hungry and thirsty after my at-home HIIT workout (oh, the glamour!) and I remembered this recipe. I actually whipped out my phone and searched for it here on the blog — but to my surprise, I’d never published it! We always have the rest of the ingredients stocked at this time of year, so I decided to revive this old favourite and have enjoyed it countless times since. Yes, this is another green smoothie recipe — but I guarantee it’s one of the best green smoothies you’ll ever taste!

My Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie combines all the island flavours I’ve been craving lately — creamy banana, sweet pineapple, zingy satsuma, hearty pear, bright lime, healing ginger and hydrating coconut water — plus a mega dose of nutritious spinach and omega rich chia seeds (I promise you can’t taste the spinach at all!). This tropical elixir is packed full of vitamins, potassium, iron and protein — I often make it for lunch or breakfast to help with post workout recovery and give me an energy boost to power through the rest of my day. It’s also a great way to persuade your littles to eat their fruits and vegetables! Whip up a Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie anytime you’re craving a taste of the tropics — it’s refreshing, revitalizing and reminiscent of a super charged pinã colada (no white sandy beach required!).

DECEMBER 2017 FAVOURITES

It’s the second Monday of a fresh new year and I’m back to share some beauty and lifestyle favourites with you! Last Monday was my first day back to work after taking a bit of time off over the holidays and I’m feeling refreshed, recharged and reinspired for all 2018 has in store. I eased into the new year slowly and really carved out some time to think about what I want to accomplish and share with you here at JustineCelina. It was definitely a valuable exercise that caused me to reevaluate my typical content schedule — and left me with the desire to shake things up around here!

So, I’ve decided that my Monthly Favourites posts are now going to include lifestyle and WELLNESS favourites in addition to BEAUTY, FRAGRANCE and SKINCARE! I’ve also decided I may no longer publish them every month — but rather, more organically when I have favorites to share. You guys get a good idea of what I’m loving FASHION and MUSIC wise through my style content and Monthly Soundtracks, but I’ve never really had an outlet to share my lifestyle and wellness favourites in this capacity. This month my favourites even include some decor (as it relates to wellness!). All this change also inspired me to switch things up in the way I capture this content. I know you’re used to seeing a lot of flatlays styled with flowers and foliage — and while those are beautiful, I felt it was time for a change! Today I used the actual items I’m chatting about to style this post — including healing rose quartz accents, our Himalayan natural salt lamp and a few air plants I’ve collected over the past few months as we refresh our space (they’ll be a lot more interior design and decor content coming to JustineCelina this year!). If you’re up for a change of pace and excited to learn more about a handful of beauty, fragrance, skincare, wellness and lifestyle products I’ve been loving this winter, pour yourself a big mug of herbal tea and settle in for a cozy Monday evening read!

This January, our DIGITAL BLOOMS are set to a fresh, inviting palette of crisp white, forest green, warm maple, cool grey and unconventional navy as a nod to Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2018, Ultra Violet — described as a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade that conveys originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. DIY | HOW TO MAKE AN ASYMMETRICAL HOLIDAY WREATH

To kick off December, I had the pleasure of attending a wreath making workshop with the lovely and talented Rebecca Dawn Design. The wine and holiday cheer were flowing — and between all the eating, drinking and being merry, I created this Asymmetrical Holiday Wreath! I took you along via Insta Stories and after lots of questions and comments about the process, I finally had some time to photograph the wreath and publish a DIY post for you (better late than never, right?!). If you have an hour to spare, you too can create this modern, Scandinavian style holiday wreath with a handful of inexpensive, easy to source materials! They also make a lovely hostess gift if you’re looking for last minute ideas with a handmade, personal touch.

This year, I’ve definitely taken a more minimalistic approach to the holidays and decorating. Since my main focus these past few months has been refreshing our living room (stay tuned for the reveal in the New Year!) and we’re out of town visiting family for the holidays, we didn’t even set up a tree! Instead we decorated our new Bird of Paradise plant with a few twinkling lights, added some cotton stems to our vases and hung this Asymmetrical Holiday Wreath! If you’re looking for a simple DIY to add a festive touch to your minimalistic decor this holiday season, a fresh wreath is the perfect addition. Our home is brimming with greenery and lots of natural wood textures with a mid century modern vibe — so I selected Cedar, Pine, Brunia, Eucalyptus pods, Red Ironbark Eucalyptus and Magnolia Leaves for our wreath (it’s also makes the living room smell amazing — no tree required!). If you’d like to learn how to make an Asymmetrical Holiday Wreath of your own, throw on your favourite Christmas playlist, settle in with a glass of your favourite festive beverage (may I suggest Classic Winter Citrus Red Sangria?) and let’s get started!

DIGITAL BLOOMS DECEMBER 2017 | FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS

Friends, the last month of 2017 is upon us (say what?!?!) and that means it’s time for an extra festive edition of DIGITAL BLOOMS to send 2016 off in style! Join Rebecca Dawn Design and I in welcoming winter with a fresh selection of seasonal flowers and whimsical, holiday inspired designs. This time we’re highlighting the cooler side of the PANTONE Fall 2017 Fashion Color Report — including luxe, velvety hues of Tawny Port, Ballet Slipper, Navy Peony, Golden Lime and Marina. We hope you enjoy this refreshing change of pace from the warm, autumnal palettes we’re been working with for the last few months! December 2017’s Digital Blooms feature some of our favourite winter flowers, foliage and berries — including Anenomies, Asclepias, Astilbe, Astrantia, Knifeblade Acacia, Liqustrom, Ruby Silk Grass, Sedum and Spray Roses. Our featured Christmas tree design is also a nod to Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017, Greenery. It was a shade I really enjoyed working with across categories here at JustineCelina this year and can’t wait for the 2018 Colour of the Year announcement (I have a feeling it’s going to be in the red family — keep your eyes peeled to my socials over the next week or so, I’ll share the news as soon as I find out!).

Click through to feast your eyes on December’s 3 free tech wallpapers and to enjoy that festive holiday feeling on background of your computer, tablet or phone into the New Year! And we’ve included another coloured background option for for my moody crowd — last month you loved our nod to Pantone’s Neutral Grey in addition to the our standard marble background, so for December we really changed things up to offer a background option inspired by Pantone’s Navy Peony. It’s an opulent, regal hue that will add a bit of visual drama to your tech as we transition into winter. Happy Holidays from Rebecca and I — we hope December’s free tech wallpapers help to make your holiday season a little more merry and bright! Thanks for hanging out with us as we celebrated each month of 2017 through nature’s most beautiful blooms and we can’t wait to share what’s in store for 2018!

NOVEMBER 2017 SOUNDTRACK

And just like that, another month has flown by (how is 2017 almost over?!). Welcome back for another monthly soundtrack, where I compile all my most listened to tracks in one tidy little playlist for you to enjoy! My November 2017 Soundtrack is an eclectic, 50 song playlist featuring tons of new artists and a melange of different genres — we’re talking everything from electronic to indie and hip hop to instrumental. This month, there’s even a new track from an artist who personally reached out to thank me for including one of his tunes in a previous playlist (I’m totally digging Infinitefreefall’s newest release, Belonging, which you’ll have the pleasure of listening to today!). Now that’s what JustineCelina is all about!

Need a solid, 3 hour playlist to help you power through the pre holiday hustle? My November 2017 Soundtrack is for you! Although I love every song I include in these soundtracks, this month’s favourites include Utah’s Watercolor, Ashe’s Used To It, Prince Fox and Quinn XCII’s Space, Post Malone and Quavo’s Congratulations, Broke for Free’s Lemonfade, Lost Boy Crow’s Traveler, ODESZA’s Boy and Say My Name (what can I say — I love ODESZA!), Griffin Stoller’s Find Your Way, RAC and K.Flay’s Heartbreak Summer, Felix Snow’s Evening Buffalo, Alvvays Plimsoll Punks, ayokay and Baker Grace’s Too Young, Kygo and Jason Walker’s Sunrise, Cigarettes After Sex’s Apocalypse, Cappa’s Hey Hi Hello, Adrian Lux’s Teenage Crime (an ancient track that I’ve recently fallen in love with!), Pomona Dream’s Easy Raider, Qveen Herby’s Wifey and One11Twenty’s Blame. I hope you enjoy November’s selection of ear candy!

AUTUMN / WINTER 2017 TREND GUIDE | FALLING FOR FLORALS

Fellow fashionistas, welcome back for my third AW17 TREND GUIDE and final set of photos we shot in the Alberta Badlands — this time, at dusk! Tonight I’m thrilled to share a bit of an edgier look than you’re typically used to seeing here at JustineCeina, but as I mentioned, I’ve been totally reinspired fashion wise this autumn and really experimenting with my personal style (and having tons of fun in the process!). It was also a lot of fun to experiment with different lighting conditions — since we shot this look in the last 15 minutes before the sunset, these photos have a bit of a moodier vibe to them. I think it suits the outfit perfectly!

Tonight I’m Falling for Florals all over again and styling a selection of seasonal trends through fresh eyes — including autumn / winter florals, soft leather, velvet, faux fur, circular shades and red. If you’re looking to elevate your personal style or refresh some wardrobe staples as we transition into winter, this post is for you! Tonight I’m wearing a both old and new favourites — this is a look I’ve worn quite a few times this season and received tons of questions about. If you’ve always wanted to explore moody florals, find your perfect (faux) leather jacket or red lip and aren’t sure where to start, you’ve come to the right place! Pour yourself a delicious glass of vino (or fix yourself big mug of herbal tea!) and get cozy for an in depth style chat, complete with tons of shoppable links and alternatives for every price point and body type (would you believe my dress is under $30?!).
