JANUARY BLUES, 2018 PLANS + MY 300TH BLOG POST!

I kept flip flopping back and forth about this post — and that’s part of the reason it’s getting to you on February 1st, rather than January 1st. Should I just publish the TREND GUIDE I had originally planned for these photos? Should I save these thoughts for a traditional New Year, New Goals style post, or my 3rd Blogiversary? Should I open up about all these things? Or should I just proceed with regularly scheduled programming? Do people like more personal posts? Is it okay to publish 2 posts in one day? Will anyone even notice or care?

These are exactly the kind of over analytical, consuming thoughts that I can pretty much guarantee all creatives, bloggers and content creators have faced at one point or another while they’re in the process of creating whatever it is they create. But today, instead of the FASHION content I had originally written to accompany these images, I’m going to share something that’s been on my heart and my mind for the entire month of January. This year, there will be no New Year, New Goals post, like I’ve published every January since starting JustineCelina almost 3 years ago. There aren’t any styled flatlays with planners, coffee and flowers today — because here’s the truth. If you want to make real changes in your life, all the planners, scheduling tools and cute stationary in the world won’t do it for you. Only you can do that for yourself. So today, it’s just me.

A GUIDE TO BRINGING AUTUMN FLOWERS INTO YOUR HOME

Flower friends, it’s been awhile since our last FLOWER EDUCATION post — but today Rebecca Dawn Design and I are back with A Guide to Bringing Autumn Flowers Into Your Home! We’ve had an absolutely beautiful autumn here in Calgary and the changing landscape inspired us to switch up our decor and colour palettes indoors as well. With so many stunning fall blooms to choose from in October, Rebecca and I teamed up to create this moody autumn arrangement inspired by (you guessed it) the Pantone Fall 2017 Colour Trend Report — its been so much fun translating seasonal colour inspiration across categories!

If you’re ready to learn all about autumn blooms, explore the darker side of fall florals and add a cozy touch to your decor, this post is for you! Rich bordeauxs, warm neutrals, blush and grey have been making waves in all things fall FASHION — and they also translate beautifully to flower and interior design. Welcome autumn into your home today as we chat about familiar and unconventional fall blooms and foliage in this Guide to Bringing Autumn Flowers Into Your Home — including velvety, wine hued Ranunculus, peach Ranunculus, Mother of Pearl Roses (remember those beauties?), Astrantia, Scabiosa, Saracena Lily, Poppy Pods and Angel Wings Begonia Leaves! Rebecca also shares her expert autumn flower care tips to help extend the life of your autumn blooms for as long as possible.

CHECKING IN | 2017 GOALS & CULTIVATING BALANCE

Well guys, we’re over half way through 2017 — and it’s been about 7 months since I published my New Year New Goals: Cultivating a Balanced 2017 post (say what?!). I’ve just come home from a partially unplugged weekend visiting family and I’m feeling refreshed, so I thought it was a good time to check in and update you how I’m working towards the goals, intentions and plans I set out for myself this year in an attempt to cultivate more balance in my life. Overall, I’m happy to say I’m in a much better place than I was at the beginning of the year — but it’s been a lot of hard work to get there and some things definitely haven’t turned out how I planned!

Today I’ll be updating you on my progress towards my overarching goal for 2017 to return to a more balanced lifestyle and what exactly that looks like for me as an entrepreneur and blogger. I’m also sharing my progress towards more specific goals like learning to overcome perfectionism, recovering from burnout, getting organized, investing in myself and my businesses, refreshing our space and being more mindful about looking at the bigger picture more often to ensure the puzzle pieces of my life and career fit together in a way that works for me. I’m also sharing a few detours I’ve taken along the way — some intentional and some completely unintentional (but serendipitous!). If you’re interested in learning more about the changes I’ve made so far this year in my quest to cultivate balance in my life while working towards my personal and professional goals, pour yourself a nice, juicy glass of wine (or a big cup of coffee if you’re reading in the morning!) — and let’s get into it!

MARCH 2017 BEAUTY FAVOURITES + BLOG HOUSEKEEPING

Hey guys — welcome back for another Monthly Beauty Favourites post! As you may have gathered, the last couple of months have been intense BEAUTY wise here at JustineCelina — I’m elated to continue my partnership with Sephora Canada into 2017 and have been testing products like crazy. I’ve also been testing new drugstore products as well (if you joined me over on Insta Stories one random Friday afternoon last month where I unboxed and gave my first impressions on a ton of new goodies I picked up from Wet n Wild, you know what I’m talking about!). My March 2017 Beauty Favourites are a mixture of new high end obsessions and new drugstore obsessionsthere’s something for everyone!

And now, for some blog housekeeping. Back in my New Year, New Goals: Cultivating a Balanced 2017 post, I mentioned a number of things I was investigating to aid me in working smarter this year. I’ve been experimenting with new structures, programs, workflows and tools behind the scenes here at JustineCelina this year — and you’ll see the first of the changes roll out in today’s post (I’m excited to share them with you — but I’m still learning, so it’s a work in progress!). If you’re in the mood to learn more about March’s standout beauty products with a side of blog housekeeping, pour yourself fresh cup of coffee and settle in for a lengthy read!

DIGITAL BLOOMS MARCH 2017 | FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS

It’s March 1st and that means it’s time for another installment of DIGITAL BLOOMS, where I team up with my friend and ultra talented flower designer Rebecca Dawn Design each month to create 3 free desktop wallpapers! Except… plot twist — this month, there aren’t any flowers! March is going to be an incredibly exciting month here at JustineCelina for a few reasons — first, it’s my Blogiversary month (I hit publish on my very first post almost 2 years ago!), it’s the first month of spring (hallelujah!) and I have some amazing plans in the works (including travel — and you’re coming with me!). I think you may be able to tell from all the exclamation points in this paragraph just how thrilled I am to be able to share all of this with you!

March seems like the perfect time to celebrate Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017, Greenery (are you sick of hearing me yammer on about Greenery yet?!), by incorporating this refreshing and revitalizing shade, symbolic of new beginnings, into March’s Digital Blooms. Pantone coined 2017’s it hue as ‘nature’s neutral’ and this month we’re showing it off with an array of exotic green foliage! While we may not see the first signs of spring’s natural greenery in Calgary this month, we can refresh our digital devices with this reviving, restoring and renewing hue. We hope you enjoy March’s Digital Blooms — click through for 3 free Greenery inspired downloads sure to freshen up the background of your completer, tablet or phone just in time for spring!

BANANA WALNUT GREEN SMOOTHIE BOWL

I don’t know about you, but with March dancing on the horizon I’m so over winter. Today I decided to bring spring to JustineCelina a bit early with a Pantone Inspired Banana Walnut Green Smoothie Bowl! I’ve been on a mission to simplify, streamline and organize my life this year in an attempt to cultivate more balance — and that’s definitely trickled into my diet as well. Although I tend to favour simple, seasonal recipes packed full of awesome, fresh ingredients, I’ve found myself especially drawn to culinary minimalism (did you catch my Blood Orange Creamsicle Mimosas!?). This beautiful bowl of plant based goodness comes together with just 6 superfood ingredients and is brimming with ultra nourishing, hearty healthy, skin helping, brain boosting, anti aging benefits! It’s the ultimate beauty food.

Although I love smoothies, I was feeling a bit uninspired about drinking them from a mason jar as of late. So, I reignited my passion for smoothies by enjoying them bowl style — decked out with delicious, fresh toppings (hey, we eat with our eyes first, right?)! My Pantone Inspired Banana Walnut Green Smoothie Bowl is packed with plant based protein (read: no prepackaged protein powder necessary!) thanks to a healthy dose of walnuts and a protein rich nut milk. This bowl’s vibrant green hue is courtesy of tender baby spinach — with a natural, creamy sweetness thanks to bananas, powerhouse medjool dates and fresh vanilla bean. It seriously tastes like dessert, but you can eat it for breakfast!

JANUARY 2017 SOUNDTRACK

Welcome back for the first installment of my 2017 Monthly Soundtracks here at JustineCelina! January was a reflective, low key, work-behind-the-scenes type of month for me, so January’s soundtrack is pretty mellow. I love to listen to feel-good, instrumental, electronic music when I’m thinking, working and creating — so if you’re looking for some fresh tunes to help inspire you creatively, give my January 2017 Soundtrack a listen!

Standout tracks this month include Mating Ritual’s How You Gonna Stop It?, Haarm’s In The Wild, Stalgia’s Heaven + Mimosas, Anna Renee’s What You Seek, Swim Team’s I’ll Always Come Back, Port Cities On The Nights You Stay Home, Chauncey Jack’s LZYMTHRFCKR, The Chainsmoker’s Paris, Infinitefreefall’s Beautiful People, Wush’s Wave, Vanshire’s Driftless, Recycle Jordan’s remix of Midnight to Monaco’s One Way Ticket, Funeral Advantage’s C.E.O.T.7.K., Zoology’s Negai, Flagship’s Mexican Jackpot, Chase McBride’s On the Other Side, The Dig’s Jet Black Hair and Utah’s SFSG. I also stumbled on Spotify’s Lush Vibes playlist and fell in love — it’s brimming with lush, hazy, chill, instrumental hip hop that allows to transport yourself to a tropical island (at least musically) this January!
