MAY 2017 SOUNDTRACK

Hey music lovers! Welcome back for another Monthly Soundtrack as we bid May adieu. I spent a lot of time in the mountains this month, between a last minute trip to Banff for Mother’s Day, to a wedding in Canmore and a Sunday spent exploring nature and enjoying this beautiful weather. I shot this month’s album cover on top of Sulphur Mountain, overlooking the Canadian Rockies!

My May 2017 Soundtrack is an eclectic mixture of feel good tunes with a sprinkle of hip hop thrown into the mix — so if you’re looking for a fresh playlist to kick off summer, I’ve totally got you covered today. A few standout tracks in this 2.5 hour, 41 track playlist include Valley’s Drive, Luna Shadows Waves, a really cool, stripped down rendition of Jimmy Eat World’s Sweetness by TeamMate, slenderbodies opal ocean, Phangs and R.L.UM.R’s Always Been U, Day Wave’s Bring You Down, Nick Leng’s Drivers, The Electric Sons Hold On, We’re Going Home, the entire Chainsmokers Memories…Do Not Open album, The Radio Dept.’s Pulling Our Weight, Marshmello and Omar LinX’s Keep It Mellow, Emir Duru’s Sunday, Glassio and Charles Fauna’s Morning House, Far Places In My Head, Brothertigers Listen, Alejandro’s Bury Me with My Gold and Jome’s appropriately titled Mountains. I hope your ears enjoy it!

SPRING 2017 TREND GUIDE | GINGHAM STYLE + MOTHER’S DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

Welcome back for the first of many Spring / Summer 2017 TREND GUIDES coming to JustineCelina this season! Today we’re kicking things off with a bang — my Spring 2017 Trend Guide | Gingham Style was shot at 2900 feet atop Sulphur Mountain in the Canadian Rockies! Knowing my Mom was the woman behind the lens of my style content, my friends at Brewster Travel Canada reached out earlier this month, offering to treat us to a chocolate tasting and wine pairing at the Sky Bistro for Mother’s Day (how incredibly thoughtful is that?)! I’d been trying to mastermind a way to get my Mom to the mountains for Mother’s Day for quite some time, so when the opportunity to spend a day learning about chocolate from master chocolatier Bernard Callebaut presented itself, she simply couldn’t pass it up. We had the best time — I know many of you enjoyed coming along in my Insta Stories last weekend!

Today I’ll be sharing a few highlights from our day along with key seasonal trends — we’re talking yellow, red (and that Spring 2017 Pantone Fashion Color Report!), gingham, embroidery, flats, novelty denim and more. This post is part Spring 2017 Trend Guide | Gingham Style and part Mother’s Day in the Mountains! I’ve condensed our Mother’s Day experience to the first part of the post, so if you’re just here for the FASHION, you can find that towards the middle. I hope you enjoy the change of scenery, the style and a few snippets of our mountain getaway!

VANCOUVER TRAVEL GUIDE

I spent a few days in the Vancouver area last month — and today I’ve partnered with American Tourister to share my first ever TRAVEL GUIDE here at JustineCelina! I’ve traveled with Samsonite luggage for many years, so when their sister brand American Tourister got in touch last month, I jumped at the opportunity to test drive a piece of luggage from the range. This fun iLite Max 25″ Spinner was the perfect travel companion on this whirlwind trip to the west coast!

Anytime I visit a new destination, I’m asked for my list of must sees and do’s from the area and have always compiled a list of recommendations — ready to send out for anyone who requests one. Since I’m asked for these recommendations often, in 2017 I’ll be sharing this type of content here at JustineCelina, embracing the opportunity to make my TRAVEL GUIDES more comprehensive and easily accessible. See the Vancouver area through my eyes today as I share packing tips and trip highlights — including my favourite neighborhoods, restaurants, coffee shops, wine and spirit recommendations, shopping hotspots, off the beaten path locales, quirky boutiques and a day trip to the island (I’m even taking you along to a cookbook launch!). If you’re looking to temporarily satisfy a case of wanderlust or are simply craving a change of scenery, come along as we venture to Canada’s west coast in style with Samsonite!

MARCH 2017 SOUNDTRACK

Friends, it’s time for some fresh tunes! My March 2017 Soundtrack is short and sweet at just over 2 hours and 35 songs, so I’m going to follow suit with the introduction. March was a jam packed month with a bit of travel throw into the mix — and this soundtrack features a little bit of everything!

This month, Golden Coast’s Recess, Whethan and Ashe’s Can’t Hide, Only Your’s Living in the Moment, Kidwaste’s Time, Saavan’s Hide, ICELANDIA’s Stay, Ella Vos’s White Noise, SQRD’s Together, Living’s Glory, birthday’s Grown Up Kids, Jason Nolan’s The Offing, Melvv & Dana Williams Lifeline and Mesita’s Spiraling sounded especially good to my ears. I hope you enjoy this laid back, easy listening playlist!

COASTAL ORANGE BLOSSOM GIN COCKTAIL

It’s the first Friday of spring, so my food blogger friends and I thought it was the perfect occasion to celebrate! Today I couldn’t be more excited to bring you the Spring Edition of Connecting Over Cocktails where I’ve teamed up with 7 talented food bloggers across North America to showcase a plethora of floral flavours in cocktail form. If you’re looking for innovative cocktail ideas as we spring forward, you’ve come to the right place — just scroll down to the bottom of this post to see what my fellow Food Bloggers of Canada members whipped up for you this weekend!

I’m embracing this beautiful new season here at JustineCelina with my Coastal Orange Blossom Gin Cocktail — inspired by my recent trip to the west coast. Delicate and ultra mellow, this refreshing spring sipper features small batch, hand harvested, artisanal gin from Canada’s Vancouver island complimented by a fusion of orange blossom water and hydrating coconut water, finished with a splash of fresh orange juice. With just 4 ingredients, this elegantly understated gin cocktail is simple to prepare, but sure to impress. My Coastal Orange Blossom Gin Cocktails would be the perfect accompaniment to a light spring lunch, garden party, birthday party or shower. If you’re in the mood for something lighthearted this Friday afternoon, settle in for this ultra floral, spring inspired recipe!

EFFORTLESS TRAVEL STYLE

Hello from Vancouver! It’s been awhile since I’ve traveled outside of Alberta and I’m so thrilled to be exploring this gorgeous city. I actually didn’t plan to publish a dedicated style post for this look, but many of you were interested in what I was wearing when I posted a photo of this outfit on Instagram yesterday — so where we are! While all of the style content you see here at JustineCelina is reflective of my fairly eclectic personal style, I like to keep things interesting, so I showcase a range of looks. Today’s outfit is such an easy one for me to wear and very representative of my everyday style — a simple, no fuss look incorporating some of my favourite wardrobe staples. In fact, I’ve worn every single piece (except my new-ish Zara sweater!) in previous style content.

I take in as much as I can on foot while I’m traveling (I love to discover new things around each corner!), so I do a lot of walking. While comfort and warmth are my first priorities, I also like to look polished and up for anything. Most locals have been complaining about the weather, but it’s -20°C in Calgary, so not having to be totally bundled up and deal with snow sounds pretty good to me right now (it’s been a long winter!). My Effortless Travel Style is achieved by packing a small but cohesive wardrobe full of quality, simple pieces and great accessories that I’m able to combine in unique ways to create a variety of outfits. Stick around if you’d like to see some of what’s in my suitcase!

NOVEMBER SOUNDTRACK

I’m back with another monthly soundtrack for you today — is it just me or did November fly by?! November was packed full of so many exciting things, including a road trip to Jasper for Christmas in November, lots of work, photo shoots and blog projects that I’m excited to share with you soon! November’s Soundtrack is a bit shorter than most at just 50 tracks, so let me know what length you prefer for these playlists. I start them at the beginning of each month and add tracks as they catch my ear, so there’s never any rhyme or reason to the length!

A few standout tracks this month include this remix of Blood in the Cut, Lowell’s West Coast Forever, this awesome remix of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car (that I discovered driving out to my childhood home in rural Alberta earlier this month!), Glass Gang’s Wild Light, Molly Marlette’s Do Me a Favor, Matt DiMona’s The Universe We Dreamt, pronoun’s just cuz you can’t, Day Wave’s Wasting Time, SteHouse & Nick Leng’s Been So Long, Kirty’s Get To You, Oliver Tank’s Swerve, Sure Sure’s Fat Lady, pronoun’s snowed in // there’s no one new around you, Oscuro’s All In My Mind and Blonde Maze’s Antarctica. If you’re looking for some new music as we roll into December, give my November Soundtrack a listen!
