JANUARY BLUES, 2018 PLANS + MY 300TH BLOG POST!


I kept flip flopping back and forth about this post — and that’s part of the reason it’s getting to you on February 1st, rather than January 1st. Should I just publish the TREND GUIDE I had originally planned for these photos? Should I save these thoughts for a traditional New Year, New Goals style post, or my 3rd Blogiversary? Should I open up about all these things? Or should I just proceed with regularly scheduled programming? Do people like more personal posts? Is it okay to publish 2 posts in one day? Will anyone even notice or care?

These are exactly the kind of over analytical, consuming thoughts that I can pretty much guarantee all creatives, bloggers and content creators have faced at one point or another while they’re in the process of creating whatever it is they create. But today, instead of the FASHION content I had originally written to accompany these images, I’m going to share something that’s been on my heart and my mind for the entire month of January. This year, there will be no New Year, New Goals post, like I’ve published every January since starting JustineCelina almost 3 years ago. There aren’t any styled flatlays with planners, coffee and flowers today — because here’s the truth. If you want to make real changes in your life, all the planners, scheduling tools and cute stationary in the world won’t do it for you. Only you can do that for yourself. So today, it’s just me.

CITRUS SEASON ELIXIR + 30 DAY FRESH JUICE CHALLENGE


Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying this chilly weekend. I’m back today with a fresh juice recipe that takes my citrus obsession to new heights — my Citrus Season Elixir! If you’ve been following along with Insta Stories this past week, you’ll know that we did a juice cleanse last weekend. Surprisingly, it was Adam’s idea — and it was pretty successful! Everyday since Wednesday I’ve treated myself to a fresh juice — and on Friday  I decided to drink a fresh juice everyday for 30 days (you can join the #justinecelina30dayjuicechallenge too, more on that in this post!). I came up with the recipe for my Citrus Season Elixir on Wednesday — and with citrus season at its peak, I’m thrilled that you voted for it to publish next. I’ve enjoyed it 4 times this week already — it’s totally addictive and I seriously cannot stop drinking it!

My Citrus Season Elixir is an ode to one of my favourite times of year for produce — January’s bountiful citrus season! If you’ve been with me since last winter, you’ll already know how obsessed I am with blood oranges, but this year, I’m absolutely crazy about all things citrus. HOW TO STYLE | OVERSIZED KNITS


The bigger the sweater the better… am I right?! This winter, oversized knits are trendier than ever — and I’m all for it. Like any good Canadian girl, I pretty much live in oversized sweaters from November through March — they’re another item I’ve always worn regardless of whether or not they’re particularly on trend. In fact, I love this sweater so much I actually own it in 3 different colours (total repeat offender here!) and they’re by far my most worn knits this season. As an oversized knit aficionado, today I’m thrilled to bring you How to Style | Oversized Knits and share my favourite ways to dress up your knitwear for maximum versatility! Sure, it’s easy to throw on an oversized knit with leggings and OTK boots or your standard skinnies and be out the door (I do this too!), but this winter I’ve been having fun with my oversized knits and getting creative!

Although it’s January, the weather has actually been quite mild and I’m finding myself looking ahead to spring. There’s been a lot of talk here at JustineCelina this year about the Pantone Spring 2018 Fashion Colour Trend Report — I’m really craving (and being inspired by) spring’s onslaught of pastels and brights! Remember all those times I mentioned that pink isn’t really a colour I wear? Well this season, I’m really enjoying all things blush and lavender (seriously… who am I?)! TROPICAL ZINGER GREEN SMOOTHIE


Wow, according to my FOOD section I’d really like to be someplace hot right now! It’s the dead of winter here in Calgary — and this time I have my sights set on the tropics, with my Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie! Although there are tons of green smoothie recipes floating around the internet in January, you guys voted for this recipe back in December via Insta Stories when I rediscovered it one day post workout. It’s about 3 and a half years old — in fact, if I scroll way back in my Instagram feed, I can still find the original post. This is long before I started blogging and would simply share my smoothie recipes on my feed with friends and family. Last month we had a pineapple ripening on the counter and a big bag of spinach to use up — I was sweaty, hungry and thirsty after my at-home HIIT workout (oh, the glamour!) and I remembered this recipe. I actually whipped out my phone and searched for it here on the blog — but to my surprise, I’d never published it! We always have the rest of the ingredients stocked at this time of year, so I decided to revive this old favourite and have enjoyed it countless times since. Yes, this is another green smoothie recipe — but I guarantee it’s one of the best green smoothies you’ll ever taste!

My Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie combines all the island flavours I’ve been craving lately — creamy banana, sweet pineapple, zingy satsuma, hearty pear, bright lime, healing ginger and hydrating coconut water — plus a mega dose of nutritious spinach and omega rich chia seeds (I promise you can’t taste the spinach at all!). This tropical elixir is packed full of vitamins, potassium, iron and protein — I often make it for lunch or breakfast to help with post workout recovery and give me an energy boost to power through the rest of my day. It’s also a great way to persuade your littles to eat their fruits and vegetables! RADIANT RED JUICE


Can you believe it’s been almost a year since I published a fresh juice recipe?! I tend to go through phases with food and 2017 has definitely been full of more smoothie bowls than it has fresh juices. But today I’ve dusted off our juicer to bring you my Radiant Red Juice — a beautiful, summer-meets-fall elixir celebrating the best produce our bountiful Canadian landscape has to offer during this transitional time of year. Like last autumn’s fresh juice, this recipe is also inspired by colour — but this time, it’s a nod to Autumn 2017’s hottest hue (here I go with that PANTONE Fall 2017 Fashion Color Report again)… red!

I came up with this recipe on a Thursday after a huge farmer’s market run the weekend prior — it was fruit overload in the best way possible. My boyfriend had also just returned from a business trip with tons of Okanagan peaches — plus some gorgeous apples, blackberries and plums straight from a colleague’s mini orchard! We were headed out of town the next day for a weekend wedding, I was researching A/W17 trends and kept seeing red popping up everywhere (hint: there’s going to be a bit of a theme here at JustineCelina next month!) — and before I knew it I was in the kitchen combining all the red (or close to red!) produce we had available for a juice so it wouldn’t spoil while we away. My Radiant Red Juice was the result — a comforting, vivacious juice comprised of heirloom apples, red plums, red pears, blackberries, carrots, ginger, lime and a kiss of cinnamon. FLOWERCHILD

The canola is in full bloom here on the Alberta prairies where I’ve spent the better part of the past week on a bit of a ‘workcation’ — and I couldn’t resist slipping out to capture another set of golden hour images! As a blogger and content creator, I review my photo archives often, and the images we captured during last year’s completely impromptu (and a little tipsy!) canola shoot were some of my favourite of the entire year. So last night we decided to resurrect those happy, sunshiny memories! I put on a different dress and we headed up the gravel road to a different field with different camera a different lens — almost exactly 1 year later.

I’m wearing a few of my favourite things in this post — a flowy, white cotton dress, a turban style headband, an Amuse Bouche lipstick, oversized, round sunnies and some vintage jewellery. I’m also sharing some thoughts on creativity, inspiration, balance and the grind of modern day life in this introspective post. I invite you to hit pause for a little while, bathe in this beautiful golden light and breathe in the warm, canola scented air with me on this peaceful summer evening in the prairies!
