AUTUMN ENERGIZER JUICE

You guys, these are some busy times. I’m definitely no stranger to hard work — but without a doubt, these last few months have been the busiest of our lives. And while I’m grateful for the work and opportunities, there’s really only so long you can burn the candle at both ends before things start to fall apart, health wise. After awhile, there’s a point when coffee and tea can no longer help me and what I really need is sleep. At times like these I find myself turning to fresh juice to give myself an extra immunity boost!

Despite my busy schedule, I pride myself on being a healthy person and taking the best care of myself that I can through diet and exercise. Thankfully, I rarely get sick. So when I woke up on Friday feeling run down with a little tickle in my throat, I knew I had to get handle on it! It’s Sunday and I feel much better now — but this past week I came up with a new fresh juice recipe that I wanted to share with you. My Autumn Energizer Juice combines traditional autumn produce with unconventional ingredients — resulting in sweet, creamy, energizing juice with a spicy, warming kick! Power through busy times with an offbeat fresh juice recipe that includes both sweet potato and cape gooseberries. It’s just what the doctor ordered!

PANTONE 2016 COLOURS OF THE YEAR INSPIRATION | ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY

Last week, Pantone announced their colours of the year — they chose two colours for the first time in history! The official Colours of the Year for 2016 are Rose Quartz (a soft pastel pink), and Serenity (a periwinkle pastel blue). Today’s post is an introduction to these shades, including ideas on how to incorporate these colour trends into your personal style for the holidays, as well as inspiration for home decor, fashion and beauty.

I’ve followed Pantone for colour inspiration my entire career — they’re the global colour authority for creative industries. They provide a colour system that ensures colour translates accurately across all mediums, whether it be in fashion, beauty, print, or in design. Pantone also predicts colour trends, so I like to keep up with what they’re forecasting to stay ahead of the curve!

DECADENT DARK CHOCOLATE BANANA BREAD

If you’re anything like me, you have a ton of frozen, ripe bananas in your freezer! Whenever I need to use some up, my Decadent Dark Chocolate Banana Bread is my favourite banana bread to make — it tastes like a decadent chocolate cake, but it’s full of healthier, more nourishing ingredients than your average banana bread (psst… it has an avocado in it!). I’ve made probably 10 different variations of this recipe over the years, and I always incorporate whatever ingredients I have in my pantry. I bet you have them in yours too! This recipe reminds me of drinking tea and baking with my Mom — I always make this recipe out at her place when I visit on fall weekends. So, I used her vintage tea cups, silver and linens to style this post — my Mom’s house is full of antiques!

DIY | WILDFLOWER BUNDLES

Today I’m showing you how I made these little Wildflower Bundles for a summer dinner party! I was inspired by these Wildflower Bundles from Free People, and thought they would make a cute idea for a summer tablescape, on top of the napkins at each place setting. It’s such a simple but special touch, and guests like to take them home and dry them. You can make these with whatever wildflowers and shrubs you have in your own yard, all you need is some scissors and twine.

DIY | DRIFTWOOD SCULPTURE CENTERPIECE

Remember when I mentioned I’ve been obsessed with natural wood lately, and I was planning to make a bunch of wooden things this summer? This is my first DIY project involving wood! Today I’m showing you how I made this Driftwood Sculpture Centerpiece with foraged driftwood. This is a simple, inexpensive project that adds a lot of interesting, natural texture to your tablescape — all you need is driftwood, twine and some imagination! I’m also sharing some styling ideas for a summer dinner party.

NECTARINE BASIL SALAD WITH PINEAPPLE BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE

I’m totally in love with nectarines right now, and I’ve been making my Nectarine Basil Salad with Pineapple Balsamic Vinaigrette for lunch often lately! It’s quick to whip together and combines a delicious summer flavour profile — nectarines and basil. You could also have this salad for dinner, just add some grilled chicken, shrimp (or more almonds) and you’re set! In this recipe I use a pineapple balsamic white vinegar from Lucero Olive Oil, which I picked up in Napa Valley last summer (and have been rationing like an insane person), because it’s absolutely heavenly.

DIY | VINTAGE BOHEMIAN NECKLACES

I love good vintage finds, and I have a major weakness for vintage jewellery and natural stones. Vintage jewellery is so unique, and I love the history each piece carries with it. There’s also something I find so satisfying about knowing that no one else will have the same accessories as I do. Usually, the jewellery I receive the most compliments on is the stuff I’ve put together myself, so I thought it would be fun to show you how I made two bohemian necklaces recently. All of the main pieces came from a small flea market in Creston, BC — and the whole project cost me less than $15.00!
