AUGUST SOUNDTRACK

I’ve been blasting this playlist non-stop this month! I’m currently at Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, soaking in some much needed R & R before Kelsey’s wedding on Saturday — it’s actually where the this month’s album cover was taken (last summer, on the back of a boat!). I’m so impressed with the new Beach House album Depression Cherry, and Sparks is my favourite track. Other loves include Parra for Cuva‘s Majoure, and Tame Impala‘s Currents. This is a fun, summery playlist; take it to the beach, the boat, or along on your other summer festivities!

GREEN JALAPEÑO MARGARITAS

My friend Elise served these delicious margaritas at our last girl dinner, and we all agreed they were the best homemade margaritas we’d ever tasted! I’ve dabbled in making cocktails with freshly pressed juice, but it usually goes a little something like “Hey, I bet this juice would taste good with vodka in it!”. I’m picky when it comes to tequila-based cocktails, but these margaritas are citrusy, savory and a bit spicy — it tastes like you’re drinking the most delicious green juice, and I couldn’t even taste the tequila! Plus, I like that this recipe is full of good ingredients (even some vegetables!). If you’re looking for a refreshing summer cocktail with a twist, you’ll love Elise’s Green Jalapeño Margaritas. Today I’m chatting about my latest beauty obsession — the new Ultra Matte Lips from Colourpop! Currently there are 33 shades available, and I decided to pick up 10 from the range to try out. Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips retail at $6.00 USD for 0.11 oz., just a fraction of the cost of their high-end counterparts. Lately, it seems like every brand is coming out with their version of a liquid lipstick, and I’m generally a fan of liquid lipstick formulas — they dry to a flat matte finish and are super long wearing. TOASTED TRAIL MIX

Last weekend we were getting ready to go for a hike at Lake Louise and I decided (last minute, of course!) to make some trail mix for the road. It turned out to be really delicious (even the chipmunks liked it!), so today I’m sharing the recipe with you. My Toasted Trail Mix is more like a mixture of trail mix and granola — it’s full of awesome, nourishing, all-natural ingredients, and brimming with antioxidants to help fuel your day. It gets nice and toasty in the oven, and the toasted flavour is complimented by a bit of maple syrup, cinnamon, and a dash of cayenne powder for that little bit extra! I also like to enjoy this trail mix on top fruit parfaits and smoothie bowls to kick my breakfast up a notch — it’s a versatile recipe that I love having in my kitchen.

BEST IN BEAUTY | JULY 2015

July was the month of lip products! I wore lots of different lip colours last month and generally kept things light on the eyes — one of my favourite summer looks is a bright lip with a simple eye and winger liner. Most of my favourite products last month were things that I’ve loved for a long time and rediscovered, or products I’ve rotated in for the summer because they contain SPF (try to get your SPF in wherever you can, ladies!).

I also stumbled on a couple of new products — one extremely beautiful highlighter, and a limited edition edition lipstick exclusively for Canadians that smells and tastes like Maple syrup! Cozy up with me on this stormy night in Calgary and let’s chat beauty!

NECTARINE BASIL SALAD WITH PINEAPPLE BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE

I’m totally in love with nectarines right now, and I’ve been making my Nectarine Basil Salad with Pineapple Balsamic Vinaigrette for lunch often lately! It’s quick to whip together and combines a delicious summer flavour profile — nectarines and basil. You could also have this salad for dinner, just add some grilled chicken, shrimp (or more almonds) and you’re set! In this recipe I use a pineapple balsamic white vinegar from Lucero Olive Oil, which I picked up in Napa Valley last summer (and have been rationing like an insane person), because it’s absolutely heavenly.

BEST IN BEAUTY | JUNE 2015

I gravitated towards bright, warm hues during the month of June! Since I’ve been doing a lot of sunless tanning this month, my favourite products look great on medium and tan summer skintones. One of my all time favourite looks is a bright lip with tan skin and a clean cat eye — I wore a bright lip pretty much everyday I wore makeup.

My love affair with Colourpop continued, and I also have two favourites from Becca this month. I went back to my all-time favourite liquid eyeliner (which makes it super easy to achieve a perfect winged liner, I promise!). Get ready for a healthy dose of summer beauty recommendations!
