SPRING 2018 TREND GUIDE | LILAC LOVE

Fashionistas, welcome back for my final TREND GUIDE of Spring 2018 — dedicated to my recent obsession with all things lilac (if you’ve been following along this spring, you probably saw this coming!). It’s been an exceptionally busy couple of weeks (I’ll be sharing some fun projects I’ve been working on BTS with you soon!), but before the lilacs faded, we managed to pop out to shoot some new style content in my hometown of Strathmore, Alberta. In fact, we squeezed this shoot into the only free hour we had on our way to Brooks to celebrate a birthday — I had to paint my nails at a sequence of red lights on my way out of the city (yes, I was driving!). All things considered, I love the way these images came out!

Regardless of current trends (or the season, for that matter!), a beautiful, flowy top (which I love so much I picked it up in 2 other colours and ordered one for my Mom!), skinny jeans, comfortable, low heels, a cute bag and a great pair of shades is what you’ll find me in on most spring weekends or casual days — another one of my go-to outfit formulas that’s ultra wearable, yet polished. But this spring, I’ve updated this classic look with a selection of seasonal trends and fresh accessories including lavender, pleats, fluted sleeves, straw bags, block heels, coin necklaces and pearls! If you want to dip your toes into the lavender trend but aren’t sure where to start, stay tuned for a few tips that will help you integrate this of-the-moment hue into your wardrobe or beauty routine this season — even if you’re not sure it’s a colour you can pull off (because you totally can!). Today I’m sharing a handful of my favourite trend highlights to carry you from spring into summer (and beyond) in style!

SPRING 2018 TREND GUIDE | CHECK YOURSELF

It seems that we skipped spring entirely here in Calgary over the past 2 weeks and went straight from winter to summer — so naturally, I thought it was time to drop my first Spring 2018 TREND GUIDE on you! Admittedly, it’s difficult to keep up with our extremely bipolar climate in Alberta, let alone dress for it. Although we enjoyed many 20 ºC days in late April and early May, over the past few days we’re back to more typical spring weather — May showers included! While I was ecstatic to bust out all my open toed shoes (you can expect a SS18 SHOE GUIDE coming soon!), I also pulled together a few spring looks at the beginning of the season that have been on repeat lately — this is one of them! I never thought I’d see the day where bare legs were an option, but friends, the time has come!

I’m thrilled to bring you my Spring 2018 Trend Guide | Check Yourself — one of my favourite transitional outfit formulas for our Canadian winter-to-spring season, freshened up with a selection of key trends as we move into warmer weather (I can’t even begin to tell you how refreshing it is to not have to shoot in the snow!). Today I’m chatting about how to integrate checks, blush, OTK boots, round sunnies, panama hats and retro colour pairings into your spring style and highlighting my favourite on trend pieces at every price point. I’m also sharing my favourite source for designer bag dupes — believe it or not, this Chloe Faye look alike was under $40!

WINTER 2018 TREND GUIDE | VELVET UNDERGROUND

March is upon us, but winter is still very much alive and well here in Alberta. In fact, in all my years living in Calgary, I can’t remember a winter when we’ve had this much snow (I’m not even exaggerating, the piles are taller than I am!). So, what’s a fashionista to do? This year, I resolved not to let old man winter put a damper on my personal style — after all, life must go on and I’m a firm believer in looking and feeling your best, no matter the weather. So, for my final TREND GUIDE of the season, I’m sharing a cozy look featuring some of my favourite luxe, winter fabrics — but I’m also taking cues from SS18 trend forecasts. This transitional, winter-meets-spring look is two parts new and one part vintage — with a dash of bad ass thrown in for good measure (and yes, I listened to The Velvet Underground the entire time I edited this post!).

If you’re ready to rev up some classic pieces in your winter wardrobe with an infusion of key spring trends, this post is for you! Today I’m chatting about velvet, baker boy hats, millennial pink, daytime sequins, fuzzy fabrics and gold accessories — plus how you can wear these trends right now, as well as transition them into spring. Don’t let the March blah’s get you down — let’s end winter with a bang this season with my WINTER 2018 TREND GUIDE | VELVET UNDERGROUND and tons of shoppable links at every price point!

MY TOP 5 PUMPKIN SPICE LIPSTICKS

Fall is my favourite time of year for many reasons — but something I look forward to each year is pulling out all my favourite warm, cozy lip colours (and trying a few new ones!) to mark the change in seasons. Last autumn as I was organizing my vanity for the season, I noticed a major theme — all of my most-worn autumn lip colours had a very similar, pumpkin spice inspired colour story (yes, I actually began working on My Top 5 Pumpkin Spice Lipsticks post last fall!). Although I may be the only woman on the planet who isn’t into Pumpkin Spice Lattes (shocking, I know!), I can definitely appreciate the inspiration behind this quintessentially autumnal beverage. So naturally, I thought this concept would make a fantastic addition to my seasonal BEAUTY content here at JustineCelina! I absolutely love to embrace each season as fully as possible — whether it be in my personal style, beauty routine, home or what I choose to nourish my body with. While a lot has changed in 2020, my love of fall beauty remains — and although I’m not wearing as much makeup as I did pre-pandemic (or getting glammed up nearly as often), I still love to treat myself to a beautiful, seasonal makeup application for an instant confidence boost. I hope I can inspire you to do the same, as my makeup routine has remained one of my most cherished forms of self care over the years!

Today I’m thrilled to share My Top 5 Pumpkin Spice Lipsticks featuring my top shelf autumn lip products ranging in formula across price points — from long wearing (and mask-friendly) liquid lipsticks to nourishing natural products, to elegant hybrid formulas! If you’ve been browsing my recent STYLE content and wanting to learn more about what’s on my lips (I’ve been dropping major hints this post was coming!), you’ll find all the information you’re looking for in today’s post. As always, this dedicated review post in my recently introduced MY TOP 5 series is brimming with try-on photos, swatches and application tips — plus my top lip liner recommendations to pair with each shade to create a full, defined pout! If you’re ready to spice up your lipstick wardrobe for cooler months ahead, you’ve come to the right place — throw on your coziest sweater and curl up in your favourite reading nook with a seasonal beverage for a serious dose of inclusive, autumnal beauty inspiration. I also share my complete camera-ready fall beauty routine (sprinkled with tons of shoppable links) when I’m craving a dose of glamour!

MY TOP 5 ROSE TONED LIPSTICKS

With the promise of spring dancing on the warm Chinook breeze, I find myself looking to refresh my BEAUTY routine to reflect the transitioning seasons. You may have noticed a consistent colour story here at JustineCelina this month — I’m absolutely head over heels for all things pink and feminine, which seems to be a recurring theme each February! As we ease into spring (and through an extremely brown late winter here on the Alberta prairies), I seem to crave an extra dose of colour — in my wardrobe, my home and even in my beauty routine. I’ve noticed that each year February’s arrival evokes my desire to swap My Top 5 Everyday Lip Colours in favour of warmer, rosier, more romantic hues — and today I’m elated to share them with you!

My Top 5 Rose Toned Lipsticks are tried-and-true shades that have secured a permanent place on my vanity (and in the bottom of my bags!) as we transition into spring. From ethereal rosy nudes to the richest, deepest roses and across a range of formulas, finishes and price points, these universally flattering rose-coloured lipsticks truly make me feel beautiful — and I think you’ll love them, too! If you’re looking to infuse your beauty routine with a fresh, romantic twist as warmer weather and approaches, pour yourself a glass of rosé and take a seat at my vanity to learn more about MY TOP 5 rose toned lipsticks — plus coordinating lip liners to create a full, defined pout!

WHAT TO WEAR TO | A CASUAL SUMMER WEDDING

It’s the height of summer here in Calgary — the sun is shining, temperatures are soaring and we’re deep into the heart of wedding season! Over the years I’ve published a few posts about what to wear to Spring Weddings as well as other various outdoor summer events — including Garden Parties and Horse Races. But during my 4 years of blogging, I actually haven’t created a post about What to Wear to | A Casual Summer Wedding (despite it being one of the most searched terms here at JustineCelina during July and August!). So today, in the latest installment in my WHAT TO WEAR TO series, I’m sharing all my best summer style tips for outdoor summer weddings!

Longtime readers will know I relish in the opportunity to dress up and dress well for every experience life has to offer. That said, I also know what it’s like to be overdressed in a casual setting — I’ve attended many a small-town wedding with denim on the menu. While I always prefer to be overdressed rather than underdressed to be respectful to my hosts, over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about how to adapt your attire to your environment without letting it put a damper on your personal style. My What to Wear to | A Casual Summer Wedding post covers how to select a versatile summer dress you can wear for years to come and choose accessories to compliment your frock while dressing her down for daytime — along with special occasion beauty and hair tips to polish your look without ever appearing overdone. Pour yourself a glass of rosé and say ‘I do’ to great casual summer wedding style!
